Disney is out of their minds on Alaska....and we are out!

A bit arrogant, a bit cocky and I'm sure many folks will still book with them, but we are priced out.

Here's my estimate--I did have a price from my agent despite being a lowly single cruiser on DCL.

2 cabins, Cat 9, 1 with 1 adult, 1 child as an adult and the other with 1 adult, 1 child as an adult and 1 child as a child.....

Connecting staterooms---Cat 9 (I think that is the lowest window).

$4000+ PER CABIN.

Umm not just no--but heck no.

And the half price promotion ends--on the 24th. How kind of Disney.

I'll likely sail with them again--I like the cruise line--but the pricing is just obnoxious even for Disney. Beyond obnoxious.

Just thought I'd toss that out there. TA might have been placating me--but they did agree with a few of my...ummm...comments.

We just aren't at a point in our lives where we can take a vacation in that manner and when we are--we had other plans with the mouse to spend THAT kind of money.

Yikes, I guess I won't even bother! We are in a similar situation - we'll need 2 rooms for our family of 5. I was all excited to save $$ over the next year and a half,,,but even if I do, that will be a LOT to save! Yikes and double yikess!

I'm getting a bit disgusted too. We've always sailed in Cat. 9 (still a lowly silver though) and dh thought it would be nice to splurge for a balcony some day. I figured what better cruise to splurge on since Alaskan cruises are all about the view, but no way is it worth that much.

I have an order in for my TA to quote me an old Cat. 6 and a Cat. 8 but now I'm thinking if we really want to do this it will have to be cat 9 again.
Luckily we all fit in 1 cabin. Anyone needing 2 and it's just not doable.

Not to mention the Wonder doesn't have (and won't ever get) any glass roof so swimming will def be out. No CC either.

Hi Peter,

Guess we'll be sailiing with you guys again. We've booked the LA-Vancouver repo and the 1st Alaska.

Nice of Disney to keep going to the places on the wish list.

Hope the recovery from your "spill" has gone well and there are no lasting issues.

Bob & Dale (and Gordy of course)

Unfortunately there are so many people out there that will gladly pay these out of this world prices that they aren't likely to lower them.

We took our 1st DCL cruise this summer and it will likely be our last unless we happen upon a great deal like we did for that one.

While we LOVED our experience, we just can't justify those prices. We are excited that there now will be cruises leaving from Charleston which is only a little over 3 hours from us. This will make it much easier for us to try other cruise lines that are more reasonably priced.

My mom and dad were actually interested in the Alaska sailings on DCL but I would be too embarrassed to get them a price quote with the prices I've seen posted today.

I am so disgusted with these prices! They are absolutely absurd. I "was" booked for Thanksgiving 2009 in a Cat 3 suite, had to postpone because of furlough issues and was thrilled with the ship heading to Alaska. After seeing the prices for a Cat 3(or T I guess is what they are called now) they are at least $2,500 more than my 2009 HOLIDAY cruise. And I understand they want another $300pp for the additional deposit. Sorry Disney, we'll figure out something else because we won't be cruising to Alaska.

Not necessarily so....on the first season of the Magic, the prices were through the roof. People tried Disney once, but they sure didn't come back...and within a couple years priced were down to the levels we're seeing this year.

SO, I'm not surprised that the first season in Alaska is high...and I expect the first season on the Dream to be crazy. However, they may well come down as loyal DCL customers can't justify the prices.

I can do Princess or Royal Carib with a balcony for less than 1/2 of what DCL wants just to get me on the ship! I love DCL, but maybe not that much...at least this year.

I'm not very happy today, either. We'd need 2 cabins for a family of 5 (kids will be 18,16, 11 in 2011) and I had wanted to do a balcony/inside combo. Since we have not yet cruised DCL, we cannot take advantage of the lower tier pricing. I sincerely doubt we'd be able to swing prices next week, especially looking forward to college expenses.

I'll have to wait until Princess and HAL release their 2011 itineraries in April/May to decide what to do. I know that for the prices quoted today, we'd be able to do TWO WEEKS of interior Alaska touring, including airfare to/from ANC, for the price of the 7 day DCL cruise. (I've been "planning" Alaska trips for five years and have lots of trip spreadsheets LOL)

Princess is currently having a balcony sale for their 2010 Alaskan cruises. If such a thing occurs next year (and they have an itinerary I like---including Glacier Bay which DCL does not include), we might cruise instead of independent land touring in 2011.

I hope everyone who was able to book today will have a fabulous cruise in 2011

You folks sure got better deals than I did. I don't find the Disney Alaska rates a surprise. My only Disney cruise, in a Category 10, for 4 adults in 2003 New Year's week (yes a peak week), booked a year in advance was $7,000.

We were excited about DCL going to Alaska until we got price quotes today: $8450 without transfers or insuranced for 2 adults and a 13 y/o and 9 y/o in 5B (deck 6 midship). We love DCL but can't see paying that much for Alaska. We have friends that just got back from Alaska after 2 weeks on a land/train/sea trip and they said their costs were just under $8,000 for everything including flights, insurance, transfers, all extra food, tips and excursions for 4 adults.

I think we will wait on the prices hopefully going down or wait until the Dream begins booking for our 2011 cruise.

I agree the Alaska prices are crazy. I've gone on another cruise line with 2 obstructed view cabins each with 2 adults for $1,650 total. You can't even get one cabin for that on DCL.

We live in Maryland and Baltimore is starting to do more & more cruises. Not all cruise lines and not all year, but more & more all the time... My next door neighbors just booked 2 cabins over T-giving week for 4 ppl for about $4,300 - and just an hours drive away. Granted, it's only on Carnival but the thought of not having to tack on airfare is looking better & better. I think that Celebrity & RCI both go out of there now too which would be better... Might just be the answer I need...
