Good Seafood Restaurants around Vero...

We usually stay at Vero for 3 days before we hit the parks. We've found 2 places for dinner that we love. Capt. Hirams and this little Italian place in the city Of Vero Beach. Any suggestions for a great seafood place close by?

Although we love Capt Hirams and will go back again, the food is better at Squid Lips, which is up the road past Hirams. For higher quality dining, the food at Ocean Grill is great. There are just so many great places to eat within a 15 minute ride from VB.

Ocean Grille is very near the italian place (if it's the one I'm thinking of). It is very good, although a little more expensive than Capt Hirams or Squid Lips.

Ocean Grill is over priced, musty, and just okay food.

I've been to the Ocean Grille several times and always had a great meal.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. I felt like I was eating in my grandmother's attic.

We hit Squid lips in August and really enjoyed the open air atmosphere of the restaurant. There was a free appetizer coupon in the book that is in your room. The drinks were good and the fish fresh. We will go back again.

We like Squid Lips (the bacon wrapped cajun scallops are my FAVORITE! and the oak grilled fish is great), and they have the best warm bread that is kind of like a hawaian bread. Captain Hirams is good. We were not impressed with Ocean Grill and thought it was overpriced, but lots of people love it. Mulligans Beach Bar across the street from Ocean Grille has great food and good prices, and you can sit outside right by the ocean. Also, Riverside Cafe on the river, just under the 60 bridge is great for lunch, but I hear it turns into a giant bar hangout at night.

Those are our top four. We like to eat fish, and we like to be right by the water.

I guess I am the lone poster who was not impressed with Squid Lips at all. It has no decor, food is hit or miss, and prices were high considering the quality of food. JMHO, be prepared for very, very, very, casual atmosphere.....get my point?

We enjoy Jake Bakers Lobster Shanty and Mr. Manatee's much better than Capt Hirams, have not tried squid lips. There's also an Italian place in the strip mall by Publix across from the Mall in VB and it was very good.

I'll concur with you on the Lobster Shanty, we ate there twice on our last trip. We'll try Mr. Manatee's in 2011!

I prefer Capt. Hirams over Squid Lips.

That's odd. We tried Lobster Shanty on our last trip and it tasted like frozen food you'd get from the supermarket. Maybe we just had a bad day as Dean seems to usually be on the money. I will say that our waitress was great though.

Should also mention that we went early (around 5pm) and I think the youngest table (besides us) was in there 70s. Nothing wrong with that, but when you bring a 18 month old in there, I was worried that I'd be disturbing the other tables as there were NO other children.

We had the same impression of Lobster Shanty. Lots of bland food and a musty smell in the place.

If anyone know the name of the Italian place in VB town, we'd be interested in giving it a try.

We'll definitely go back to Squid Lips. Great Happy Hour on food and drinks and live music to enjoy!

Squid Lips

We went to Vero twice this summer and Squid Lips was great on both visits.

My son went crazy over the Mussel appetizer, which I enjoyed as well.

The all you can eat fried shrimp was very good. It was freshly battered, as opposed to the boxed & frozen type many restaurants serve on all you can eat nights.

While it is very casual, we thoroughly enjoyed that as it reduced the stress of getting three kids cleaned up & dressed up just for dinner.

Enjoy!
