Poly dilema - help me decide
When I go to WDW, depending on my flight time, I often go down the night before and use my points and stay at a a Marriot the first night (due to the late arrival) and check into my WDW hotel early the next morning.
For my December trip, I got such a good rate at CSR that I didn't want to use my Marriott points so I booked the first night there and then 7 nights at Poly. The price difference between Poly and CSR is only $105. Am I crazy not to go right to Poly the first night and not deal with a move? (I have a car, and am used to this one night, then move thing). Part of me is saying "yes" but the concern I have is checking in late at Poly - I'm not overly picky about my room but there are definitely longhouses I prefer (I like to be close to GCH and I like the 3rd floor due to the balcony - maybe I am picky?). Would you check in right away and risk not being in the ideal room at Poly (I know there are no BAD rooms) or stay at CSR, get to Poly early and wait it out for a room in one of the buildings I want? Things must be going well for me if this is my life's biggest dilema today huh? But I'd still like to hear some opinions. Thanks! |

If it were me I would not want to do the move for one night....especially when the difference is so small.
When we stayed at the Poly last Aug I wanted to add on a night but it was $275 and since we were getting in late we decided to just stay at the CSR instead (89 a night)...but if it was $105 I would have done it in a heartbeat!

That's a tough one....I'm really picky about our room, also!! There are certain locations that I just do not want. We are doing the same thing you are when we go in May....staying at the Pop the first night then going over early the next morning to the Poly. Don't want to take the risk of not getting the room we requested. Feel like we have a better shot in the early morning. We don't mind waiting if the room isn't ready. And like you...we will have our car. Good luck deciding!

You could check in to the Poly and if you don't get the room you want, you can put in your request for your preference right then and--assuming they'd have the room you want--move the next day.
This happened to us once at AKL. We checked in so late that we got a room that wasn't our cup of tea (although it was actually an upgrade--but we prefer to be on the 2nd floor). We spoke to the manager and he was able to get us a more-than-ideal room for the rest of our stay, so we spent only the 1st night in room #1. And, as a bonus, the room we moved to was by far the best savanna view we've ever had at AKL, so the move was so worth it even though I hate changing rooms. I guess my point is that, if you're going to move anyway (from CSR), why not move within the Poly? It'd be much easier to do and if you get lucky, you may not have to move at all. $105? Stay at the Poly!

We've done this, just book the room only but when you do tell the CM that you start your package the next day so they can link the two res. so you don't have to move at all. Next a.m. just go down and check out and then back in again, very easy.

I agree with this. The Poly has such wonderful customer service I don't imagine you would have any trouble arriving late and saying "I was going to stay at the CSR tonight and come here tomorrow so I could get a 3rd floor longhouse near the GCH, but I figured I could stay here tonight and you can set that up for me first thing tomorrow?". You could call the Poly to verify with them but this sounds well within their abilities. Plus you wouldn't have to move.

Thanks so much for the advise - I hadn't really thought too much about the moving within the Poly option if what I want the night of check-in isn't available. I also think working in my favor is that my favorite longhouses are the ones over near the marina and due to the fact that they are the older ones and ones that are a hike from the TTC they seem to be less popular.
