Anyone else not sleep AT ALL night before departure?

Hi all,

It's 4:45 am here and I have been tossing and turning all night and finally decided to get up about 45 minutes ago since I'm waking my boys up at 5 to tell them, "Surprise, you are going to Disney World . . . TODAY!!!!!"

I have been on many trips and while sleeping isn't always instant, has come, not so much this time! Anyone else ever do this or have I truly gone around the bend?

Oh well, I can sleep on the plane, right??

Heh. Our trip next month, I'm getting out of work, driving home, grabbing hubby, and driving to the airport. We'll get in around midnightish, but at least I won't have to worry about not sleeping the night before.

Been there done that. The males in my family drive me nuts because they just wander off to bed while the females run around like chooks with our heads cut off checking lists etc etc!!!
My biggest problem is that if I forget anything it is about 20hrs of flying back to get

Have an AWESOME trip :

I always have this problem, especially for early a.m. flights when I am afraid the alarm won't go off! I laugh about Queenie's post because she is describing the EXACT scenario in my family!

Yeap, I've had this problem ever since I was a kid. When the next day was something exciting or special I would have a TERRIBLE time getting to sleep. Makes it all the worse when our flight to WDW are always early am flights, (7 am or earlier), because that means I have to get up by 5 to get there by 6. Which normally getting up at 5 isn't a problem. I normally get up at 5:15, but I usually go to sleep by 10 pm as well. Night before the Disney flight I'm lucky to get to sleep by 1 or 2 am!

I can NEVER sleep. Always do early flights too, so it doesn't help that i have to be up super early. Last time I got 3 hours of sleep... and not even consecutively! This time i have to be up about 4:30 in the morning.... so yeah i don't see it going too well lol.

It starts with the nights leading up to ADR window...trouble sleeping and nightmares of no preferences being available! On my worst nights I do manage about 3 hours sleep, but that is not enough to feel decent. In December we have a direct flight Detroit to Orlando that departs at 12:05 pm. Hopefully, with that easy schedule, the night before should be good.

On the TV show "The Doctors" a sleep specialist said if you have trouble falling asleep to start counting backwards from 300 by threes. You'll have to turn your brain off from all other distractions in order to do the math and you'll get so bored that you will fall asleep. The night I tried it I kept forgetting the last number I had come up with and did fall asleep before I got down to 200.

The night before a morning trip we always have at least 2 battery backed up alarms set.

OP, I hope you have begun a magical trip!

I'm glad I'm not the only one

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has always had trouble sleeping before vacations, ever since I was a kid.

We went to Aruba last December, and we needed to leave the house by 4AM. We aimed to go to bed by 10PM. My wife did fine, but around 1AM I was still awake, but tired enough to fall asleep. I was too nervous that I would sleep through the alarm, so I opted to stay up. Long story short, we were both in bed by 8PM the first night on vacation!

This December, we're going to WDW and leaving pretty early (7:30am-ish flight), which means we need to leave our house around 5:30am. I am pretty sure I won't sleep at all. This will also be the first plane ride for our DD(2), so I don't know if I'll be able to sleep on the plane. But once I get there, I'm sure I'll be wide awake!

I never sleep the night before. Maybe 1/2 hour if I am really lucky. I imagine the extra angst was because of the surprise and the anticipation of seeing how your kids react. Hope everything went off without a hitch!

I'v felt your pain for the last 3 trips. I can never sleep either, just toss and turn. Then we get there at about noon, and head to MK till it closes. So this upcoming trip I decided we would fly out after school the night before, get to the resort at about 11 pm, but tired enough to sleep and get to the parks at rope drop the following morning! We don't take long trips, and go during the school year, so this way the kids will only miss 2 days of school, which is better too. I'll have to pony up for the extra night, but I think it will be worth it to have 5 good, full days at the park instead of trying to catch up on missed sleep from not sleeping and leaving for the airport at 4 am on previous trips
