ME luggage tags - wrong resort
Hi all,
We booked out 9/28-10/3 trip in May, through AAA, and originally were headed to Pop Century. Several flights of fancy later I decided to splurge and take sweetie to the Grand Floridian. When we got the AAA packet earlier this month, the ME luggage tags still say we're slated for "POP." A quick call to our travel agent resulted in being told "just scratch out the Pop and write in GF." Sweetie was not pleased and we asked the TA to get us new tags, which she said she would do. Now, we're little more than a week from departure and still have no GF luggage tags. Any ideas on what we can do? I'm tempted to just check our luggage, retrieve it from baggage claim ourselves and walk it to the ME bus. Thanks! DK

The only question I have is this: DID YOUR RESERVATION NUMBER STAY THE SAME? If your reservation number stayed the same, then you can and should use those tags. Each DME tag has some barcodes. The barcode is the "computer-ese" version of your reservation number. When the barcode is scanned, the computer acceses the reservations database and sees that that reservation number is for guests staying at Grand Floridian. Those bags will be routed to Grand Floridian. The reason for crossing out Pop Century is simple ... there could be a Disney cast member working in Disney's airport-based luggage sorting facility who sees your bags tagged for Pop but being loaded into a Grand Floridian cage, and then decides to be "helpful" by grabbing those bags and placing them with the Pop bags "where they belong." Just make sure that you don't cross out the barcode. The barcode is everything. Hopefully, you now understand how the system works and won't want to waste your time getting your own bags. I can tell you this much ... in the 4 years DME has been in existence, here in DISboards we have NEVER read a first-hand account of someone in your position who had their bags accidentally delivered to the original resort. In other words, the Great Disney Computer knows all!

We were told the same thing when we wanted to switch resorts, just to scratch it out and write in the new resort name.

we did it for the last trip and will do it for this coming trip also. We had some of our luggage "lost" on our honeymoon, I would rather get it bc if your luggage is missing or damaged then you only have 4 hrs form when you land to tell them (SW) I do know some people who really like ME to take their bags but that isn't for us.

1) Was your honeymoon at Disney World? I'm guessing not, but I don't want others to think that you had a bad Disney's Magical Express experience. 2)When you check-in with Disney's Magical Express, they ask how many bags you put DME tags on. If that number of bags with your personalized tags aren't scanned into the database within a reasonable amount of time, DISNEY goes looking for your bags and contacts your airline for you, if need be. They do this for you, as your agent. Therefore, a claim is made well within that 4 hour window ... all airlines have a similar stipulation about missing luggage in their Contracts of Carriage. |

Eric and others: You guys are awesome! Thank you for such helpful information. Sweetie and I appreciate all the replies and we're much less anxious about whether our luggage will mistakenly end up the the Days Inn Kissimmee!
Best to you all, DK
