New to Disney Cruising

On our next trip to WDW our 2 DD have convinced us to take a cruise. Being new to Disney cruising I have a few questions.

1. I note you can not book suites online what chances are there of booking one 12 months out? An what is difference in price compared to the Family Deluxe Stateroom?

2. Is there any discount booking resort booking with your cruise booking?

3. I notice online I could not find where you can add dining option to resort booking and I could only get up to 5 day theme park ticket and no water park option?

Are there any other hints you can provide?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

To book cats. 1-3, you or your TA needs to call DCL directly. In this economy, I'd say chances are good you would be able to get a cat. 3 booking 12 months out (unless you are trying to book on certain popular dates). There are only 2 category 1's and 2 category 2's, so they may be harder to secure.

2. Is there any discount booking resort booking with your cruise booking? No, and often you can save money by booking your land portion separately.

3. I notice online I could not find where you can add dining option to resort booking and I could only get up to 5 day theme park ticket and no water park option? Sorry, can't help with this one.

Have fun planning!

The best advice I can give based on what you want to do, is to use a TA, one that specializes in Disney Vacations.

We did a land & sea package in 4/07. From what I know about it, the dining package is not part of the option. However, you can always check to see if you can add it. We added the water park to our ticket by going to guest services at the resort.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Supposedly you can now add PAID dining to a land/sea package. In past years you were not allowed to do this. However, in the past few weeks people have been reporting trouble doing this.

You can upgrade your park ticket after you check in at the resort--increasing the number of days, adding water parks, adding "no expire" etc.

As above, for a first timer, get a great TA who specializes in DCL and WDW. A good one will be more help than you can imagine!

The old "rule of thumb" used to be that a Cat 3 (1 bedroom suite) was approximately 25% - 35% more than a Cat 4 (Family Suite), but in the past couple of years that is usually no longer the case. Now the Cat 3 prices seem to be anywhere from 50% - 100% more than the Cat 4 prices (depending on when you book, popular dates, etc). The prices for that Cat 1 and 2 suites are closer to 100% more than the price of a Cat 4 (or even higher sometimes).

Along with that, the deposit for any of the suites is double the usual deposit (except for the Alaska cruises where I've read that the suite deposit is $800 per person) and is completely non-refundable. You can change sailing dates, and even cabin categories, but the deposit will never be refunded if you cancel.

We found it much cheaper to book the land/sea separately. You save quite a bit of money that you can use on the Disney Cruise

In the land/sea package you have to stay in a deluxe hotel...can't see paying the price when all you do is shower, change and sleep.

We stayed in a value resort, and purchased the dining package. Well worth the money - if you didn't buy the dining package, you lose money. As the price you pay for one dinner would cover the entire day of eating when you buy the package.

I believe the resort you stay at is tied to the category cabin you select. I forget where the line is, but the lower categories can stay in moderate resorts (POFQ, PO Riverside, Caribbean Beach), while the others stay in deluxe resorts.

Just remember if you stay in a value resort and choose to buy DCL transfers to port, you will need to get yourself to a resort that DCL picks up from, as they do not pick up from the value resorts. That, or you rent a car or get a car service to take you to the port.
