POR or CBR
Hi again
I think we have it narrowed down for a price factor to 2 different resorts. CBR or POR which one should we chose? We have a 2yo & will want to take him swimming & then a few days at MK We will also be going to a few wedding events--rehearsal dinner, wedding day etc..which is at WDW Wedd pavillion, the RD is AKL & reception is somewhere else, so basically all scattered, so we will be taking taxis to those things |

I think both of the resorts are nice in their own right. It's been several years since my husband & I stayed at each of them -- and was prior to us becoming parents, so I may view things differently today!
Personally, I like POR better than CBR. We liked POR for the size of the resort, the beautiful grounds, access to the water etc. It was the 1st 'on property' resort we ever stayed at, so it will forever be magical to me! ![]() I loved the concept of CBR, but it was very, very large & spread out for us. We did a lot of walking bk/forth to get to the main pool & dining area etc. (not always desirable after running around the parks most of the day). The CBR grounds were very pretty though! There were several bus stops around the resort you had to hit before getting to the desired park, another reason I didn't like it as much. The main pool I recall was pretty nice (we didn't use that one b/c too far away); it may be more appealing to your little one. Happy travels!!

I've stayed at both. I would vote for POR. Much smaller geographically, easier to get around on foot. Plus, you have access to the pools at POR & POFQ.

The rooms at the CBR are a little larger than the other moderates. Believe me, when you get all your stuff moved in, you'll be glad for the extra space.
The rooms have been refurbed recently with some being Nemo themed and some being pirate themed. The pirate themed rooms are a little more than the Nemo rooms. The CBR main pool was totally redone last year with a pirate theme and an entire section just for kids. Each CBR village has their own quiet pool, laundry facility and best of all, a white sandy beach complete with hammock chairs and beach chairs. The beaches are a great place to spend some down time just relaxing and making sandcastles. Oh, and at night, you can see the higher Epcot fireworks from Old Port Royale and even some of the beaches. The food court at the CBR has quite a few options available and everything we have ever ordered has been very good. The resort grounds are absolutely beautiful. So lush and tropical. During each of our four stays, the bus transportation has run very efficiently. No problems at all. The CBR does not share their buses with any other resort....they go right to the parks. And, because the resort is centrally located, it never takes you long to reach any Disney destination. Each village has their own bus stop so you aren't far from one. A lot of people talk about how spread out the CBR is but it's really not that bad to our family. The walk around the ENTIRE promenade is just 1.4 miles. So, even if you are put in a building at the furthest point in the resort, your walk to Old Port Royale (main pool, food court, store) is roughly half of that. I actually timed my walk from Trinidad South (where the pirate rooms are located and one of the furthest villages from Old Port Royale) and it took me a grand total of 6 1/2 minutes and that was walking at a leisurely pace. Oh, and you can actually pay a little extra for a preferred location so you can be assured that your building is close to Old Port Royale. We've stayed at the CBR four times and are booked for a 5th stay next May. It's a great resort.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but....CBR for your particular situation. Personally, we LOVE POR and can't wait to stay there again. We've stayed at both POR and CBR. CBR really is pretty, but please please please consider a preferred room, you'll appreciate it later. IMHO POR is the nicer of the two, room and 'atmosphere' wise but with your little guy/girl the pool situation at CBR really does win hands down. They recently refurbished the entire pool area there, now has zero entry, kids play area with fountains/dumping buckets, etc.

LOVE all 4 Moderate resorts!
CBR is so colorful and bright and now with the pirate theme it would probably be better for a young child. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I vote for POR. We used to be CBR fans all the way but then we stayed at POR. We stayed there twice and then decided to stay at CBR again for old times' sake - my youngest couldn't remember it. Boy, did we miss POR! CBR really is more spread out and it just seemed not as welcoming. We love POR for the general ambience, the food court, the pools, and the quiet.

I think CBR is great -- especially with a 2-year old that loves to swim! CBR just added a HUGE kids' swimming/play area.

I love all the moderates and have stayed at all of them. I think for your situation, CBR is a good bet. It has the new pool area with the zero entry, splash zone and a small slide perfect for toddlers. POR has a lovely main pool but for a two year old, CBR's main pool is much better imho. CBR is also very centrally located which is nice and you have nice views of Illuminations from around the resort. So if your dd is too tired to stay in the parks at night, you can at least go out to the beach and see some of the high up Epcot fireworks.
Also, CBR rooms have the Nemo theme in their standard rooms which is very cute (but very subtle, not overdone at all). CBR also has the beaches, and there are several nice playground on the beaches. I think its nice for parents to be able to enjoy the beach (and views of Illuminations) while the kids play in the sand or on the playground. Again, I love POR and think it has the best food court of all the mods and I love the main pool there. But the CBR pool area is so great for younger kids and it has six quiet pools. It is a spread out resort (but so is POR) but its the only moderate that has the bookable preferred location category. So if you want to be close you can actually pay a bit more and have that be guaranteed vs. a request. They are both lovely resorts and I know that I would almost have a hard time choosing between the two. But with a toddler, for me CBR would be my hands down pick. But you can't go wrong! |
