Fall Festivities and Food with Figment

Continuing with Fall Festivities and Food with Figment...

On Figment's arrival night, he was lucky enough to get to go to Le Cellier - one of his favorite places! It's a little dark inside, so getting good photos without a flash is a little tough (he finally gave up at dessert and hoped he wasn't annoying to many folks).
Pretzel Bread - Figment really likes the pretzel bread sticks at Le Cellier. In fact, he usually asks for just those because there is no point in wasting the other bread!


Figment was on the Deluxe Dining plan for this part of the trip (his first split stay), so he started with a variety of appetizers.
Le Cellier Lobster Chopped Salad - always a big fan of lobster, this salad had nice big pieces!


Cedar Creek Clams - this was his favorite appetizer at LC. The clams had really good flavor and the pretzel bread was prefect for sopping up the juice. Despite having chorizo, it wasn't very spicy at all.


Seared Scallops - Figment is also a big fan of scallops. These were very tasty.


Then moving onto the entrees, Figment gave into his carnivorous side and tried three steaks!
Grilled Bone-In Rib-Eye - The steak was perfectly cooked and had excellent flavor. The potato wedges made for a nice presentation.


Grilled Bone-In Rib-Eye - this one had risotto instead of the potatoes. The presentation wasn't as pretty, but the risotto tasted better!


"Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - this is Figment's favorite entree at LC. The Filet was cooked exactly as ordered and had good flavor. The risotto is Figment's favorite part! So yummy!


Then it was onto dessert.
Seasonal Sorbets - Figment will be honest - he was kind of skeptical about cucumber sorbet. However, after trying it, it was really good. It was nice and light, which a good contrast to the heavier meat entrees.


Trio of Chocolate - yum, chocolate! The Nanaimo was interesting (kind of dense), the chocolate sorbet was okay, and the chocolate cake was very chocolaty.


Apples - Um, interesting...Figment likes chocolate better.


The next day had Les Chefs de France for lunch and a visit with Chef Remy!
Soupe a l' oignon gratinee - no trip to Chefs would be complete with out onion soup. As always it was very yummy, but one of the two bowls had onions that were still kind of crunchy.


Assiette campagnarde - for variety, Figment decided to give the assortment of French pates and charcuteries a chance. Some were very good, others were less yummy. Figment liked most all of the meats, except the duck liver mousse. Surprisingly, the mousse had the strongest flavor, while the pate had a more mild (and better) flavor.


For entrees, everyone in Figment's group had the same thing!
Plat de Cote de boeuf au cabernet avec pates - the meat was fork tender. This is Figment's favorite entree at Les Chefs.


Then it was on to desserts.
Strawberry Cream with Sorbet - this was a very light and good dessert. The strawberry sorbet was yummy and the "cake" was more like a mousse with strawberry.


Profiteroles au chocolat - Figment's favorite dessert at Les Chefs. Chocolate, ice cream, and puffs!


Next time...California Grill, Raglan Road, and more!

Inside as good as out

Fall Festivities and Food with Figment

Continuing with Fall Festivities and Food with Figment...

On his last day of Deluxe Dining, Figment had lunch at Tutto Italia. This was his first time to Tutto since it re-opened.
Bread Service - the meal started out with a nice bread service, which included a few olives.


Calamari Fritti - Figment really likes calamari and this was very good.


Prosciutto de Parma - Prosciutto is one of Figment's favorite things to eat so he had high hopes this dish was as good as the previous Prosciutto de Parma appetizer. The Prosciutto was very good. The "gnocco fritto" were basically fried triangles of dough...very light and airy, but not much to them.


For entrees, Figment tried the risotto and a pasta dish.
Lasagna alla Bolognese - Very rich, but very good.


Risotto al Frutti de Mare - a yummy seafood risotto.


Then it was on to dessert!
Raspberry Sorbet - a nice a light dessert as the heavy entrees. Slightly tart, but good.


Torta di Nocciole "Cortemilia" - it was interesting...Figment was sure if he liked it or not. It was sweet, but had a kind of odd consistency/texture.


Mocha Tiramisu - Figment knows he liked this dessert. Tiramisu...yum!


Figment had dinner that night at Le Cellier, but those pictures were already posted.

The next morning Figment headed over to Boma for breakfast. Boma is Figment's favorite breakfast spot...there are so many yummy things to choose from!

Figment still isn't sure if he really likes quinoa, but he ate two bowls (again this trip), so he's becoming more sure that he likes it.


After a day at Animal Kingdom, it was time to head over to Downtown Disney for dinner at Portobello. Figment had never been to Portobello before, but he had gone to the F&W demo with Tony Mantuano the previous year and really enjoyed the black linguine with shrimp dish that he demonstrated.

Calamari - the calamari and sauce were both very good.


Mozzarella Stuffed Rice Balls - this was their version of arancini. They were more like mini-torpedos than balls. Unlike the ones at VN, these weren't meant to be "popped" into Figment's mouth; these needed to be cut. They had good flavor, but Figment liked the ones at VN better.


Then it was onto the entrees. One was really good, one was not good. Figment will start with the good.
Linguine with Clams - this dish had lots of flavors and lots of clams (and lots of sauce, luckily).


Black Linguine with Florida Rock Shrimp - this was the dish that was demonstrated at F&W, but the dish served at the resturant didn't taste anything like the one at F&W. If it weren't for the fact the tomatoes and asparagus were also on the plate, Figment would have though they forgot to put the sauce on the pasta. The dish was very bland; it needed something (like garlic, some white wine, and a few more spices). Figment ended up using the left over sauce form the linguine with clams to give this dish some flavor.


So,while Portobello was one of Figment's new places for this trip, sadly it's not on the list of places to return to. I think if Figment lived near to WDW, eventually he'd go back to Portobello for a second time, but when he only has a limited number of dinners he is less likely to give something a second try if it wasn't very good the first time.

Holy coincidences, Batman! Figment recently helped me with my food pictures, too!

He really loved the coffee press pot at the Kona Cafe.
