Not DIS-related, but disAbilities nonetheless
Hey folks,
I wandered over here as FI and I are both ADHD "kids". He was diagnosed as a teenager, I somehow flew under the radar until last year, my junior year of university. Needless to say it's been quite an adjustment, trying to relearn how to study/learn. Here is my question- my university has a disabilities support office. They require documentation from doctors in order to provide a memo to your professors. My doctor keeps filling out the paperwork incorrectly and the DSS office keeps rejecting it. Most of my professors have been very understanding, however some do NOT allow laptops. I have very poor fine motor skills and it is much easier for me to follow lectures and keep up with note taking in a digital form. As a service to my classmates (to make up for the "distraction" of my typing), I email my notes out to everyone at the end of each lecture. I have a night class tonight, my adderall normally wears off about 1/2 way through. I have not been able to see my doctor yet, and the professor wants a note. He is not an American citizen, and his English is broken at best. How should I deal with him tonight? I don't want to be disrespectful, but it's not my fault my doctor can't follow simple directions for filling out the paperwork! |

I would suggest you fill the paperwork out for your doctor and just have him sign it.
I guess you know that fine motor skill issues typically do not go along with ADHD and are more typically associated with EF differentials. Have you ever had an auditory processing evaluation done, this can often provide good recommendations which can support your needs in the academic arena We have a community board under this one for non-Disney questions, which is probably, were this will be moved. Please feel free to ask question, as there are lot of people who participate on these boards with a breadth of experience bookwormde

I have moved this to the disABILITIES Community Board, which is the best place for non-WDW related questions.
You should not have to see your doctor to get the form filled out. You could fill it out and ask the doctor to sign in; you could send the doctor an example of how to fill it out correctly and ask him to follow the example; you could let the doctor know what was incorrect and ask for it to be corrected. Another option might be to ask the disabilities support department to assist you in getting it filled out correctly. If things are missing or incorrect, they may be able to help you to get it done.
