Newbie question about Castaway Club

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to DCL and was wondering about being a member of Castaway Club before you've ever gone on a Disney Cruise. (I know it's automatic after your first cruise)

1. Does having the Disney credit card automatically make you a member of Castaway club?
2. If you formerly worked as a character at Disneyland (albeit it years ago) does that make you a member?

Thanks!

No, the only way to be a Castaway Club member is to take a DCL cruise.

After your first DCL cruise you are a Silver Castaway Club member.

As far as I know, you only become a CC member after your first cruise.

ok thanks for your quick replies!

Maybe you'll know the answer to this too...
how difficult is it to reserve a cabana on Castaway Cay as a newbie? I'm super fair plus traveling with baby grandkids so will definitely need to have some shade. Do they charge for cabanas? (we're going on the Disney Magic over Thanksgiving).

Cabanas are normally snapped up by the first group that can book (concierge and platinum). There are only 16 on the family beach and they cost $499. If they are all booked when you can choose port adventures keep checking as people do cancel. On e onboard you can ask to be put on a waiting list.

Sorry meant to add that it's $499 for up to 6 people, additional $50 each per person up to a total of 10 people. Only 6 are included in the base price.

For the most part the cabanas are booked at the 120 day mark. Sometimes, one will come available, if you keep checking. But I wouldn't count on it.

The only way I think you have a chance of getting one as a newbie would be to book a concierge room. Then you get to book at the 120 day window.

I will point out there are lots (as in many) of umbrellas on the beach. There's like one umbrella for every 2 lounger/2 beach chair combo. As well as trees around the perimeter of the beach.

There is a lot of shade on Castaway Cay if you look for it. I never sit in the sun and have always been able to find a place in the shade on CC.

Do you have to reserve/pay for chairs and umbrellas on CC? Or are they included?

Im with the others... why pay for a cabin on the beach...that is almost what we paid pp for DCL cruise fare...

We were all over the place that day. And most of us were never together.

Never see us getting a cabana...
