Interesting. Who contributes to the data? Owner's of each timeshare?

Yes it is a random scientific poll of members (or at least that is how they promote it).

has anyone ever been a part of one of these surveys

I am sure housekeeping and maintenance issues are behind the fall from the top.

True that. I was less than enthralled with my first Disney Files magazine.

These type of companies are used to measure performance and satisfaction internally. Generally they have a very sophisticated set of criteria that are constant across the various similar companies. They normally track what's considered high return items useful in comparing one's own performance to past results but also to competitors and the industry in general. Usually the survey is random but not random across the entire membership. It's likely they took a random survey of those who stayed over a period or time, maybe 3 months or so. It's also likely they would have required a certain number of responses from those who stayed at all resort, maybe a min of 10 from each resort.

Here's the problem as I see it when it comes to DVC. En Mass, DVC members don't have a lot of experience with other timeshare to use as a point of reference compared to the average timeshare owner with other companies. This will skew the results just like it skews the ratings on TUG.

Although the survey is interesting, I don't think it has a whole lot of relevance with DVC because most people who buy DVC buy it for the onsite accommodations at WDW. If you were considering whether to buy Marriott (apparently the highest-rated) or Hilton or something else, these ratings would be more helpful.

The other thing is, to evaluate surveys like this you have to know what factors they are considering...and whether those factors are important to you. For example, there is no question that there are a number of timeshare programs which are better than DVC for exchanging out. There are also many that are less expensive. So the usefullness of a survey really depends on how well what they measure matches your personal criteria.

I agree the “best survey” is subjective and may not match any one persons perspective, I just thought with as much as DVC touted it as an indication of what a good management job they were doing that once it did not support that they did not mention it.

Not only do you need to know the questions, you need to know the relative importance the survey places on each question.

Yeah, that's a real shocker!

Good point, but I certainly wouldn't expect Jim Lewis to come out and say, "We're Number TWO...formerly #1!"

I'm sure the survey accurately measures whatever they try to measure. My point was that whatever is important to timeshare gurus generally may not necessarily be important at all to individual DVC owners. If one of us wants to crawl home after an evening at F&W, Marriott can't really provide that location.
