More of Pop Warner's Finest
For those of us getting sick of the problems with Pop Warner each December, here's a recent story regarding some of their finest:
"LYNN (myfoxboston) - Damian Merida, a Guatemalan immigrant, is in serious condition as a result of a beating allegedly at the hands of six juveniles. The six suspects, who rage in age from 11 to 14, all play football for East Lynn Pop Warner and still remain on the team. The beating accrued in July yet they have been participating in pre-season football practices with ankle monitors. The 6 were arrested for attempted murder and other charges. The six boys were released to their parents following a hearing last month and are awaiting pre-trial hearings. Reportedly Merida, 30, was asleep near the commuter track when the boys allegedly jumped him for no reason with sticks, rocks and bottles. According to Lynn Police boys assaulted Merida because of his race. Donations for Damian Merida can be made at any Sovereign Bank branch, paid to The Damian Merida Medical Fund." Another comment from someone with knowledge of the Pop Warner problems: "Got to love this one. *** is this program thinking? You'd think after the fight(s) in Orlando, Pop Warner would get the word out to de-thuggify their image... Good find. Unfortunately, this is becoming (more and more) typical. But the parents and coaches allow for it, which Pop Warner obviously does, as well. There's a "supposed" code of conduct in Pop Warner (at least, there's a rule in the rule book), but you can see how well it's all being handled: ankle bracelets. Nice, Pop Warner. Real nice... Oh, and congratulations to the East Lynn Bulldogs and president "Duke Wilson" for doing things the right way. Quote: "I want to assure the families and friends of the program that the program is in compliance with Pop Warner rules and regulations, and that the mission of the program is intact." That's some mission you got there, "Duke."" And yet one more commenting on the original article: You have to love these comments after the article in the link below. " My son plays for ELPW. So far my son has been on 3 different teams. I have no idea who his coaches are and it seems some adults just show up on the field to "help out". Makes me wonder what is going on. I stay with him the whole time because I don't feel comfortable with some of the adults that are milling around and now I have to worry about some of the players too? I am letting my son play because he loves it and deserves to play. " " ELPW obviously doesn't care about having thugs on the field. They have Melvin Lark as a coach, who is out after serving time. I guess they don't do CORI checks either. " http://www.itemlive.com/articles/200...ews/news02.txt I just don't get why Disney continues to allow this type of crowd to be allowed to host events on property and put other guests at risk.

![]() I'm curious, though. I sometimes read these PW threads. Is this a pervasive problem throughout PW or is it just the Boston area? Boston seems to come up repeatedly or maybe I am just reading the same info repeatedly. I have no bias just because I am the wife of a NY Yankee fan.

All I can say is WOW
...we are going to be in Disney during Pop/Warner and am a little nervous about it (first time going in December and also celebrating my B-day while there). We originally were booked at ASMo but I didn't want to be anywhere near them, then we moved over to CSR (before I found out that that was moderate that they will be staying at too ). I have heard from others that they are going to be staying in the Ranchos section, so I requested the Cabanas and Casitas sections, which are farther away from them. I just hope that they are on their best behaviors since this is the last year of PW's contract with Disney, and with the stuff that had happened last year.......

I need to find where I posted & read about PopWarner being warned by Disney to behave or they will not allow them there anymore...I think for the most part those that do participate in Disney don't act too crazy...we've seen them before & they are just having a good time like the rest of us-annoying to some mainly b/c there are many of them & they tend to be loud but I think they are pretty harmless....

It seems to be a problem in Pop Warner everywhere, and this is why our park is not a part of that orginization. They have a "do what it takes to win" mentality and things often get swept under the rug because "we need him to play".

I didn't read your post before I responded, but the worst part of it is some of the troublemakers may very well be at the age that this is their last year & ruin it for others... |

We were at DW one year when PW was there. I don't think we will go back during that time. The days in the parks weren't bad but when the evening came it was another story. The cheering all over the MK was not bad but the behavior of the girls was terrible. We were waiting for Spectro to start and a mixed group of girls and boys were walking down the middle of the street and all of a sudden the girls just pulled their tops up to reveal their bras. The boys just laughed and of course the girls thought it was hysterical the looks they were getting. We stayed at the WL that year and I am sooo glad we did.

Kids who appear to be lacking any impulse control (like the ones mentioned in the article in this thread) probably aren't going to be worried about keeping corporate (WDW or PW) happy. Children and adolescents like this live in the here and now. They generally aren't worried about consequences today, tomorrow, next week, or next year.

It wasn't the one I read just the other day-but this one I think I remember reading before...I guess b/c we don't travel at that time I really don't think about it much-wow-these kids should be instucted on proper behavior & it's apparent that the adults with them need a few lessons themselves too!!!

I feel really bad for the good kids in these sports organizations. They unfortunately are guilty by association. Too bad.

If you think the kids are bad; you should see the adults. They act like sailors on leave.
I went a week later a few years ago, to accommodate some friends due to the T-giving holiday. They wanted to bump me from my home resort which I had booked a year prior, because of these people. I stood my ground and it was the worst mistake I ever made. I have never seen more abhorrent behavior by people in my entire life. They made the life of the staff miserable, to the point either they were going home in tears each night, or called out sick.
