Two scenes from our trip at the end of August
One of my favorite things to do at WDW or any where is people watch. These are two things that stood out from our trip at the end of August. There may be lessons in each of them!
Scene 1: Waiting in line for Fantasmic 10 pm show. It was hot and humid, but hadn’t started to rain yet (that waited until just before the show began). They had let us through the rope into the holding area and it was just a huge mob of people waiting for the 8:30 show to let out. Some people were on the other side of the rope trying to reunite with their families in the crowd. A man walks by carrying 3 double scoop ice cream cones and a drink and scanning the crowd. We guess that he went to get ice cream and while he was gone his party went in with the crowd. The ice cream had already started to melt. A minute or two later the same man walks by going the other way. Ice cream is seriously melting and dripping down his hands. DH and I both politely turn away to laugh (a sympathetic type laugh). Man stops to scan the crowd again and walks away. A minute or so later we see same man with two globs of melted ice cream in cones, an empty cone and a drink. Man puts drink on top of trash can and proceeds to gobble most of the remaining ice cream in the two cones before throwing away cones. His hands are a sticky mess which he tries to wipe with one napkin. He picks up drink and walks toward the back of the line. We never saw him again. DH and I (who have 3 young DSs) imagined the scene when he finally reunites with his family: “Daaaaddddyyyy where is my iiiiicccce cream. I want my ice cream. I WANT MY ICE CREAM!!” We won’t imagine Daddy’s response. Scene 2: We have just gotten off Splash Mountain. Wait time is probably 40 minutes. A man is at the front of the Fast Pass line holding one of the cards on a string they give you to take through the line so they can tell how long the wait time is (we got several of those while we were there). CM is telling man something. Man (with two younger children) is irate and demanding to see a manager. Our guess is that man thought the card was some kind of Fast Pass and took it through the Fast Pass line. We thought if that was the case that CM should have just let him through. We didn’t stay to see what happened, but the man was pretty angry. Sue |

I think they might need to explain those wait time cards a little better. We saw a woman walking around MK with one on her neck. It was a double-take moment for all of us and we joked about how the wait time must look, but I can easily see how people become confused.

The CM always asks guests to hand the card to the person at the end of the line when they board. Some guests will always be oblivious. It's the hypnotic trance that overtakes many visitors at Disney.

Or maybe she was having so much fun she forgot it was on her neck still...kind of like thinking you've lost your sunglasses and not realizing they're on your head
