Does Southwest Offer Credit If Price Goes Down?

My flights just went down $100.
Can I call the airline and ask for credit? Do airlines do this?

They sure do. I did this myself and have $185 credit. The credit needs to be used 1 year from the original purchase date (not travel date). If you booked on line, just click the Change/View flight from their home page. Put in your confirmation number and click change, choose the less expensive flight (can switch times too if desired) and save. The travel voucher credit will then be issued. Do not lose your confirmation number as the credit is associated to this.

Hope this helps.

Interesting. Do you need to book the credit within a yeAr of the original booking or travel within a year?

Anyone know if airtran offers anything similar?

You need to complete your travel by the original book date + 1year. for instance if you booked your original flights on May 10, 2009. today the price went down $100, you rebook and you have to use your credit of $100 on a flight by May 10, 2010.
However for $50 you can extend your date for another year.

Awesome! I just was signing on to ask how to do this because my flight dropped $30. Not a lot of $$, but $30 is $30! And that is $30 closer to my next Orlando trip And if I don't cash it in, no harm, no foul.

Is there a way to get the credit online other than cancelling the flight and then rebooking? I guess it's always easiest to call, but asking in the case where the cheaper fare comes up after hours

You don't actually cancel your flight and rebook. Go online to Travel Tools and select Change Air Reservation. You'll indicate which portion of your flight you wish to change. You'll then search for new flights (if it's for a price drop then choose your existing flight). Choose the new flight (again, it'll be the same flight number. In the end, you won't have ever cancelled your flight. The change doesn't happen until the very last step so even if you change your mind about making a change for any reason, nothing will have happened. It's considered a change, not a cancel and rebook.

Actually, if you booked on line you are supposed to do changes on line. If the flights are for the same dates, you just have to click the change button and do not need to cancel. In my case, I had to cancel because I was also applying a promo code that I did not have before. Good luck.

Wow, $100! I see you already have your answer, but that's awesome that you were able to save the money! If I recall, this is your first flight, so it's nice having these little positives along the way as you prepare for it!

No, no,no, those red signs with the word STOP on them are optional if they have a white border.
I hope you like Debbie Gibson? I did not and got busted at a DECA National Convention for skipping her concert!

I check ours frequently and ours went up $250 total for the five of us the day after I booked. It's stayed that way ever since. I'm very glad I booked the day I did!

I did this last year. I booked flights for 6 people last year to go to Disney and by the time we left (2 months later) I had a 537.00 credit! My 2 daughters and I are now going to Disney in 5 days...and all it cost me was $2.10 after the credit was applied!!!!!!!!!
