Is ADR Valid if Some Guests Don't Show Up?

Just wondering, never had situation arise before...

We booked Ohana's for party of 5, based upon 2 friends who live in the Orlando area who said they'd luv to join us for dinner during our stay in Dec.

Now, im worried that they may decide to not keep the plans (no specific reason, yet u never know what might happen between now & then).

If they do bail on us & i can't rebook the ADR for 3 people (highly likely imo) will we be turned away?

In our experience last week, it wasn't a problem. We had Boma ressies for 7, only 3 could make it, and we were seated no problem. We had Sanaa ressies for 3, and only 2 went, no problem.

Same - DH couldn't make it to some meals and all our reservations were for 4. I just told them at the podium that there would only be 3 of us.

I think it's only a problem if you try to add people.

On our last vacation, my son was not feeling well so I stayed with him while my husband took my daughter and they seated them without a problem. I think it's understandable when things happen.

We have had ADRs for 4 on more than one occassions only to have 3 people show up as the 4th person felt ill or decided to hit more rides etc. It has never been a problem.

Or you could find some new friends. I have seen instances where someone had over-reserved and invited some people without reservations to join them (separate checks, of course) and had interesting dinner conversations.

Having eaten out at restaurants for years, I can tell you it is easier to go down than up. So I would keep the ressie at 5 people.

If the two people bail, the restaurant will be more thrilled that they can bump you down from a six-top to a four-top, thus freeing up a six-top for another party. More than likely there will be another party of five, that reserved as a party of four, and show up with a baby they didn't account for and now they need a six-top to accommodate a high chair. The hostess will probably love to hug you at this point in her day.....

To try and bump you up from a four-top to a six-top is not very much fun for the hostess, especially if they are very busy. Causes much more anxiety....like the example above. You may have to wait until they can find a larger table or move around tables, etc. Most likely at that point in the day, the hostess will want to slap you.....Just kidding - I am getting hungry myself and a bit giddy!

Enjoy!

I agree - shouldn't be a problem. Our last trip was during free dining and my hubbie was sick for 2 ressies. They didn't even question it!

Good to know. We have ressies at 'Ohana for Tuesday the 15th and we're booked for 5. I have a feeling our 5th guest may not be able to meet us due to work issues and I was hoping it wasn't going to be a problem if she couldn't get out of work in time!
