If MK's at a 10 and you want to leave for lunch/dinner....
At Christmas, let's say you're staying at WDW and visiting MK on a day when it's a 10 for crowds. Obviously, it's at risk for being shut down to more visitors due to capacity. If you're inside MK and want to leave (say to eat at The Contemporary) can you get back in? Or once you leave are you out of luck?
Also, if it's a day when the park is closed due to capacity, I've read they have a stage when the only ones allowed in are onsite visitors using WDW transporation. We plan to use a car. Does that mean we'd have to use the bus instead of the car? Thanks! |

Once you leave, you will have the same rules as someone new coming in.

The issue with transportation boils down to parking capacity. I have been there when they had cars parking in the median and along the sides of World Drive - I don't think they do that these days, but it was bad! Basically, when the parking lots get full, there's no where for additional cars to go, so no more cars can come in. Resort guests can still get around using WDW transport, so that is why at a certain point, WDW transportation may be your only option. Keep in mind that the resorts also get very strict about parking during holiday periods, so even if you have a car, you'll probably be better off just leaving it at your resort and using WDW transport to get around.
And yes, once you leave a park for any reason, and that park is at or near capacity, you will not be allowed back in if you don't meet the criteria for who can enter (and it's possible you won't get back in at all). It's really better to pick the park you want to spend the entire day in, and just stay there instead of hopping or going to the resorts. I recommend making breakfast ADR's for early in the morning at a resort, then lunch and/or dinner ADR's in the park you are visiting that day (or a late dinner at a resort, if you are leaving the park early enough). You won't get into a park just because you have an ADR in that park, and you won't necessarily get back into a park because you left for a resort ADR. If I were there during Christmas week, I would probably schedule the 26th as a resort hopping, relaxing by the pool, etc. day. In the past, typically one of the busiest days has been the day after Christmas and I don't ever want to be in the parks when they're at stage four capacity. |
