1st Time Cruiser, debating on taking my then 3 year old by myself
Any suggestions/opinions? I'm considering a 5 night Bahama cruise for next August. I've been reading up on Flounder's and the Oceaneer Club (which he'll be able to do when we're planning on traveling) and I think this will make the trip easier. He's an extremly social child that is used to daycare and looooves Mickey. He's been to Disney twice, and I wanted to try something a little different next year. I'm not too worried about flying with him or even getting on/off the ship, but I am worried it's a little too much for one person to do. The biggest concern I have is getting seasick and it ruining his trip. And are most eateries buffets or sit down? Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Do it!!!
Hey...If you think your child would enjoy the clubs I say go for it! Have him spend a few hours in the clubs, take some quiet time and RR for yourself and then spend an AMAZING time with your son if you could get him out of the club!
My DS first trip was just after turning 3, he was toilet trained (he too went to daycare) he was SCARED of characters but after one DCl trip! All changed. He loves characters now, has not stopped asking to go back onto the cruise for the past 1.5 yrs since we sailed! (We are going back in Nov as a surprise). If you could handle the airplane...you could definately handle the cruise. Very easy, great CM, customer service, clubs and the quiet area for the adults are the best! I encourage you to just do it and I believe you will not regret it! Whatever you decide take care and have a wonderful time with your son!! |

Cruising solo with a child
Hey, I'm getting ready to do this very thing in two weeks. I am cruising for 7 nights with my 4-yr old DS. He is very social and loves the characters so I don't think it will be an issue for him. I am definitely going to send him to the clubs for a few hours a day except when we are at an island and I will definitely dine with him every night. I just don't know if he will be home sick after 7 nights! I can let you know how I make out when I get back!

Thank you both so much! SJSH - You've made me feel even better and more excited that I'm making an okay choice! I definitely plan on having some 'mommy' time, but this is his trip and I'm going to really enjoy the moments we'll share together.
Dee - Good luck and have a WONDERFUL trip! Please let me know how it goes and any tips you have once you come back.

we took my 3yrold dd on 3 night dcl. she was fine. we took her on the short one to see if she could last for the medditeranean one. she is very social but would not let us leave her in the club ( which is awesome, looks like captain hooks ship) had she had a friend there it wouldve been better. also, there is an aweful lot you can't do with 3yo. lots of excursions you cant do. At CC, you have to be 5 to rent floats, etc. Still lots to do, but dont be disappointed about that stuff. also at the pool my dd was a little lost ( and we have a pool at home) We ended up having to get in the kiddie pool with her. She did love the shows at night tho and the late , late night movies. good luck

I would say enroll your son in daycare or preschool so he starts socializing with other kids and gets comfortable not having you around, then make sure he is fully potty-trained before the cruise. That way he'll be comfortable in the Oceaneer Club and you'll be able to enjoy yourself without having him constantly at your side or paying for babysitting.
Then have fun! |
