How scary is NOT so scary, anyway?

Well, never planned on this, but we may try to attend MNSSHP. We have a 6 year old and a 4 year old. My husband insists I'm trying to go b/c I LOVE the villains, and that *I* would enjoy it more than our children. They do go on HM, but are not allowed to watch horror movies or anything like that. And they are more princess than villains kind of girls.

will there be stuff that they like? (aside from candy, b/c everyone likes candy!) Or is it more geared toward older kids/adults? Is it truly scary??

Not very scary at all. There are a couple of "creepy" people in the parade (but not really), but otherwise...nothing scary about it. We had our 9 yo and 3 yo there last year and neither one of them were phased by anything. It's really not like that...its' more like one big Halloween party, which is why they say "not so scary" halloween party. Have fun. It poured on our party, which was a huge bummer, but we did the get the fireworks and parade in before the sky opened up. I know people say to go the second parade cause its less crowded, but if theres any chance of rain, go to the first, cause if it starts raining the second one wont happen. have fun.

NOT scary

Not scary at all! It's more like Winnie the Pooh with a mask over his eyes! Jack-O-Lanterns, scarecrows and hay bales everywhere. LOTS of fun - your kids should love it.

I think it's really geared much more towards kids than adults.

The parade has some people dressed as ghosts, but there is nothing very scary about it at all. The music is pretty upbeat and fun.

We had our four kids there last year- 14, 8, 6, and 4. They all had fun and none of them were scared at all.

Actually my kids did find it scary - so some kids do. My kids were 5, 3 and 1 last year. The 5 and 3 year olds thought the dark castle looked spooky and the music and voice really freaked them out. They liked the candy but when I asked them this year if they wanted to go (now will be 6, 4 and 2) they said no, it was too scary. Actually since it is disney it never really occurred to me that it would frighten them. Also, the parade has undertakers who look disney-creepy dancing with shovels and some characters that look rather zombie like. It is no where near as scary as universal fright night but it does have scary factors. I think it depends on the kids. Mine are easily spooked so it was a bit much for them. I don't think older kids would find it creepy at all but sensitive younger kids can. Also adults are in costume and although I didn't see anything offensive some could be considered a little bit scary- my kids were a little taken back by the 6 4" darth vader walking around in the dark.

Search for the "Boo to You" parade on youtube. That will give you an idea. We went when my DD was 2.5 and she wasn't scared. We're going again this year, so we'll see!

I would describe our situation exactly as you did. My dd6 is not allowed (nor does she have any desire to) watch horror movies. She doesn't even like or want to watch any of the classic Disney movies (like Snow White or even the Little Mermaid because she says it's scary). She does not like the villians! We went to MNSSHP last year when she was 5, and she really liked it a lot. I think there can be aspects of the party that might seem a little spooky, they are mentioned by other pp's. However, overall, she really liked it a lot. If I asked her if she wanted to go this year again, she would say "YES!!!" in a heartbeat. I would definitely try it. We are going later this year, so we will be doing MVMCP, but if we were going at the same period of time, we would do it again in a minute!!

We went last year with my four at the time, DD. She was really only scared during the parade, mostly by the grave diggers. I think the headless horseman prior to the parade scared her a little too. Otherwise, she was fine. She was more scared of Snow Whites Scary adeventure than the Halloween party.

If your children tend to be scared easily, then there may be some things that scare them. For the most part it is upbeat and fun though.

I have a feeling my DD6 will be petrified at the parade by the ghosts and the headless horseman. She cried uncontrollably at a P&P party because a pirates of the caribbean guy came close to her. She was so afraid and he knew she was afraid and still came at her. To this day, she is afraid of the parades. She does not like the Villans in the nighttime parade. I am very worried about the Boo parade at MNSSHP. I really hope we don't have to skip it but I don't want her afraid either.

not scary, although there are some creepy dead guys near the Liberty Belle. Anything else remotely scary is disney sugar coated! It was so much fun last time, I couldnt imagine not going to MNSSHP! The boo to you parade music will be stuck in your head for weeks!! Enjoy it!

I would think that if the HM doesn't scare them, then the MNSSHP wouldn't be scary to them. I don't think anything at the party is any scarier than what they would see in the HM or on Pirates of the Caribbean. The headless horseman and the grave diggers during the parade are a little creepy, but there was nothing else I saw during the party that I think would be too scary. There isn't anyone who comes up and tries to scare you or anything like that.
