Hairdresser issue -

This is still bothering me! On Friday I had a hair appointment for 230pm. My salon is open until 6, but please keep in mind it is a long weekend. I arrived early at 2, and brought a book to keep myself busy. I have been using this hairdresser for about two years, so I know her and I am a GOOD tipper.

At 230 on the dot the hairdresser comes over and points to a chair, as I am walking over a woman comes in with a ton of bags (had been shopping) and grabs my hairdresser and pulls her aside. I heard EVERY word of the conversation. The woman had an appointment at 130 and was an HOUR late but she was demanding to have her hair done before mine, since her appointment was first and she was going away for the weekend. She tried demanding it, then tried begging, then told the hairdresser " you work on tips right?" . So at this point the hairdresser comes in, and takes me over to wash my hair. After she washes it, she basically left me sitting there while she takes this other lady. I got up after half hour and went to peek in the other room, she was doing foils etc on this other woman. They were nowhere near done. I waited another 15 minutes. At this point my hair was pretty much dry and I was just FUMING MAD.

I left. I grabbed my stuff and walked out the door FURIOUS. Now my hairdresser has left me a few messages saying she is really sorry, she got tied up etc etc. She said the other customer was a long time customer etc and she had to help her. Shes is begging for me to come in to let her explain but well, I am DONE with her and she apparently doesn't know I heard her conversation.

She should have taken me first, I was there on time. The woman who was late should have been done after me.

Well I am still ANGRYYYYY. I will not be going back, and I plan to tell the owner why. My BF thinks I should have just waited, and thinks I am way over reacting.

I want to call the owner and complain.

I would be furious, and I would not be going back. The hairdresser needed to be firm and tell the lady she could wait until you were done if she had time, or rescheduled for another time. How rude!

I'd still be pissed. Is she that great of a hairdresser? If the answer is yes then let her beg and apologize for a LONG time and then keep her. Otherwise, out w/ the toilet water.

I'm with you on this one, that is crazy! There are plenty of talented hairdressers out there, time for a new one.

I would have left also. The hairdresser's behavior was unacceptable.

Yep, I'd be done with her. It might take you some time to build up a relationship with a new stylist, but it's worth it!

I would let her know that I heard the whole conversation and tell her exactly why she wouldn't be doing my hair again.

Find youself a new hairdresser. Mine, who I have been going to for 3 years, would have helped me first, made the lady wait, and said "too bad, so sad". However, she has also been a salon manager and in the "business" for 15 years. Your hairdresser might not have the experience to deal with this crabby, rude, inconsiderate woman.

Good luck! Find a new stylist! You did not over react!

OP, I agree with you, what this hairdresser did was wrong, and you have every right to be angry. I worked as a receptionist at a very busy salon (in a very small town) while in highschool/college and I can't tell you how many desperate calls we would get from regulars to "squeeze me in". I would always defer to the hairdresser, but the owner's policy was that the SCHEDULED clients came first.... if someone didn't mind waiting to be "squeezed in", fine. Also, a lovely older, regular customer who needed her hair set before a wake or funeral (ie, unexpected event) would always get in before the client who ALWAYS called the day she NEEDED highlights or a perm (it was the 80's, lol). There was also a ton of people who didn't mind waiting, spending Saturday at the salon was their social time, so it almost always worked out (again ,small town, the salon is where all the gossip of the week got shared).

That being said, personally, I would hear the hairdresser out, AFTER I nicely told her that I heard the entire converstation she had with the hour late client. Hopefully she will offer to make it up to you with a HUGE discount or even free service/product. I have a really hard time finding someone who does my hair the way I like it, so I would give her one more shot, but I understand if you never go back either.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I would be pissed too.

I would call her back and let her know that you heard the conversation and think it was very unprofessional of her- so you are left with no other choice but to find a new hairdresser.

Some people are just pushovers- she didn't want a fight so she took the other lady.

As much as I say I have alot of patience, that was totally rude of your hairdresser.

Basically she ditched you. I can't say I blame you for changing hair dressers. If you go back she will irritate you every time she cuts your hair.

I would still be fuming and would definitely look for a new stylist. I'd also let the owner of the salon know the situation because apparently this "client" has done this more than once.

I think I'm a mean person - I actually would have said something to the other customer! I've been known to let people know that other people shouldn't have to jump just because they say so.

I had a situation at my doctor's ultrasound office last year. I had a 2 p.m. appointment for a pelvic ultrasound. I arrived at 1:50 p.m. prepared (i.e. my bladder was full to bursting). I checked in and was told to have a seat, as the 1:30 appointment hadn't yet arrived. So I waited...trying so hard not to wet my pants...at 2:15, one of the nurses came out and told me that if I wanted to go to the bathroom, I could; there was a water cooler in the office so I could refill while I waited. At 2:45, the 1:30 appointment sauntered in...she was asked if her bladder was full and she said, "Oh, no, I didn't feel like drinking that much." Okay, cool, they'll take me, since it's past my time and I'm more than prepared. Nope...they actually had me sit and wait AGAIN while she sat there and drank her water! I was so mad, I did say something to her, and she shrugged and said, "So?" I didn't get in until almost 3:30. I let my doctor know and I asked her to not send me for anymore ultrasounds unless absolutely necessary!

I would say if you do say something to her mgr I would not go back at all. Seriously do you want to trust her to cut your hair after you've said something? Personally, I would look for another hairdresser.
PP I don't see that as mean but as not letting someone walk all over you.

That scenario (and a pirateslife's) would have me so boiling mad, I wouldn't be able to speak and be ladylike. I'd have to leave. If you ever do speak to the hairdresser or owner, the only thing I'd say is, I heard every word of your conversation with the other customer.

Your BF might have waited longer, but I don't know any women that would.
