Hairdressers...need opinions ~ Updated pic on pg 2

I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow and I'm thinking about changing up my style a little. My hair is naturally curly, but not curly enough that it can be left curly all the time if that makes any sense. It tends to frizz and poof unless I straighten it and even then, if it's humid, it just does it's own thing. This is what my hair looks like now (after blowing out and straightening ~ no humidity today!):

and this is what I was thinking of:

I'm wondering if cutting it like this will be too hard to maintain? I don't mind using the straightening iron, but I'm just sick of my current style. It just hangs there and gets too much poof on the ends unless there is no humidity. What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I'm not a hairdresser, but I did color my own hair tonight. But I don't think that would work with your face so well. The model's face seems longer whereas your face is a bit rounder. I was thinking of a John and Kate Plus 8 type cut for you? I really like my hairdresser and trust him to "do whatever you think", maybe try that unless you've never been to that hairdresser before

It's a cute cut. Adding some choppy layers may be more work to flat iron but it could help with release more curl so you can have more styling options. Your curl could spring up nicer and not look so bushy. Either way you should have more body . Go for it.

I think its a great cut and would look good on you. You can print out the pic and take it to your stylist so that they can comment on whether its the right cut for your face shape. If it isn't they can help you find one similiar that would work for you.

I went from long hair to a shag cut just above the shoulders last fall. I too have some curl/wave but when it was long and all one length I had to straighten it. When I got the shag, the layers brought out the wave and I could wear it like that or straighten it, and it looked good either way.

thanks...do you think it would be hard to style with curly hair? What if I let the hair do it's thing and curl up? Would it look horrible?

Since it's impossible in the humidity, I've been letting skipping the straightening for the most part this summer. Last time I had my hair cut (about 7 weeks ago...I'm overdue!) I asked about adding layers to help reduce the bushiness while it's curly but my hairdresser talked me out of it....said it would curl up all over, which is why it's mostly one length I guess, to help weigh it down. (it's stacked in the back..is that the right word?, lol)

I think it's a cute cut, but don't know how hard it would be to keep up, especially with curly hair.

I have hair like you - its curly, but not a good curly - more like a bad 80s perm curly!!! As of right now, I have almost sholder length hair, no layers, and I just blowdry and go - unless its humid out, I'm fine. When I get my hair done in Dec I'm going to get layers something like yours, just longer.

Anyway....... I think its a really cute cut, and its good because its layered, and short - so that means less time blowdrying. You'll just have to make sure you pay attention when your blowdrying it - the top / front bang area is going one way, while the bottom / back is going another. For me, that would be hard, but I have a mental handicap with hair - thats why I keep it simple!!!! Good luck, and make sure to bring to the picture, and ask your hair stylist what he/she thinks!

I think you'd be fine! I have the same kind of hair, frizzy/wavy/curly/impossible in the summer so I thought I'd never do well with shorter hair. I got the angled bob (Longer in front, shorter in back) and LOVE it. I will never have longer hair again. I let mine do it's own thing when I'm lazy, and straighten it when I'm not. I think shorter hair with waves is adorable!

Longer, one length hair is heavier than layers (layers = light). She was right when she told you it would curl up and get fuller. Sounds like she knows her stuff.

As for the cut, I don't know the texture and/or thickness of your hair, so I'm not even sure your hair is a good match to even attempt that style. I would go with the long, sideswept bang and some layers up there (IF you are committed to flat ironing). As for the back, same thing. You need to be commited to the iron.

You could try the layers in the back...but don't go as short as your picture. Start longer than the picture...that way if you don't like the way it's looking, it's not as much to grow out.

Good luck. Sounds like your girl is reliable.

yes, she is great. I do trust her knowledge! I'm bringing the picture for reference...I was thinking a little longer than the picture also...don't want to go too extreme at first.

The thing I dislike about my current style is the fullness at the bottom, so I'm drawn to longer layers on top to break it up. I hate how it just hangs there, you know?

here's a couple more pictures that are sort of what I'm looking for:

I guess I'm looking for less blunt looking and more tapered? Closer to the neck but still full on top
