POR/POFQ goers..what is a muffaletta?
Saw this on the food court menu and wondered what it was. Does anything at either resort stick out to you as a must have food-wise?

Olives, olives, olives...
Never had the sandwich at that location; however, I have had a few mufaletta's in my time. Think of a round sourdough loaf sliced crossways, with some of the soft insides removed; meats/cheeses layered inside and topped with an olive relish. UMMMMM....

is the olive relish a must? It sounded good to me until you mentioned that.

I bet you could order it without the olive reslish or just scrape it off. They're outstanding! Also the beignets for breakfast are a must do; think square donut without a hole and covered in powdered sugar. I don't think there is such a thing as bad New Orleans style food!

It's not a Muffaletta without the olive salad, it's simply an Italian combo that you can get anywhere, far from the same. Need a Dixie Beer to top it off!

We just had one of these at POFQ in July.
They were premade when we were there and you could request it heated and they open it up and toast it for you so the cheese is melty. It was good, but a bit salty for my taste. But what do you expect from an italian deli sandwich with ground up olives on it. My friend really loved it, but he is into salty deli flavors. I enjoyed a bite, but couldn't have eaten all of it with the saltiness (and the meat and cheeses were salty regardless of the olive stuff). Good flavor...too much salt. The olive salad is ground, so it just gives it the taste of having strong italian dressing on it...that is the flavor that it gives. These seem to be the same sandwiches that they have at Catalina Eddies in DHS. Not sure though.

You'll find muffalettas in New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. Google it and you'll find out about it.

OKW and VWL Homes Yellowstone was amazing and is a lot more inviting than Disney right now. Could we be selling it all in the near future? Maybe. |

We stay in New Orleans for a week every year, about 2 blocks from Central Grocery (IMHO the ONLY place to get a muffelatta!) We have at least one or more during our stay, then pick one up for the plane ride home. While other poor people are gagging down airline food, we are munching on our muffelata. Never fails that someone near us says..."Why didn't we think of that!"
And if you are going for beignets, nothing beats Cafe DuMond! AHHHHH only 7 months, 3 weeks... |
