Crowds late August

We'll be in WDW from August 22-27 this year...can anyone share experiences for crowds around that time of year? Any thoughts on what sort of crowd levels we can expect? Approx. how long of a wait for the popular attractions? Thanks in advance.

Popular attractions (Soarin', TSM, etc.) will still have standby wait times of 90+ minutes, sometimes much more. Will TSM be open while you are there? If not, that may push more people towards TOT and RnRC.

We've found August crowds generally moderate, with "pockets of mobbed" still at super headliners, parades, fireworks, etc. Your best bet is to get there at rope drop and cover the super headliners first.

I'll second that... that week of August tends to be really busy. Now that some schools across the country are going back to school earlier (year-round schedules), you'd think there would've been some change, but there's not.

Another thing to note... that week of August is one of the worst for heat/humidity/sun, so make sure to bring light clothing and plenty of sunblock!

Its not that bad..we go every year at that time, and will be there again 22-28. It is very hot though and rains everyday..sometimes a sprinkle and sometimes a good rain. Bring ponchos, have water delivered to your resort and have fun!

We were there last August at that time, and are heading down again in 2 weeks. Compared to March break - August was awesome as far as crowds go. Yes some of the major attractions had waits, but that can happen just about any time that you might travel.

Have a great time - don't stress about the crowds - you never know what to expect!

Y'know I'll second that... sometimes we've gone when crowds were horrible but lucked out at every turn as far as waits and FP availability. Go to enjoy the World and block out the insanity!

We have been three times that week or very close to it. We are going back 8/22-8/31. The crowds end of August used to be very low. Over the years it has gotten more and more crowded. I blame the internet and free dining. The internet gave up all the "good Times" to go. People post when the best times to go are and then everyone who reads it goes then. Disney offers free dining during this time because crowds were low. Now more people are coming for the free dining. The crowds will still be light, but don't expect to walk on everything. The crowds will get lighter as your week goes on.

Florida schools start back 2 weeks before Labour Day. That is the week we have gone and are going back. Crowds go down , no doubt! I followed these boards religiously last year and there was a drop. Relax and enjoy! We will!

We will be there the same time at Fort Wilderness cabins . We went the same time last year and found the restaurants had longer lines then some rides . Only tsm and soarin had long lines as well . Go and enjoy .

I think "crowded" all depends on your perspective. We have gone for the last nine years at the end of August and enjoyed what we believe are uncrowded conditions. The one exception to this is the restaurants. Free dining definitely effects the restaurants, but the parks? Not so much IMO. Most of the counry is back in school at the end of August and family vacations are over, with the exception of some of us Northerners who know that late August is a great time to go to WDW! But like I said, it is really perspective. You have lots of opinions on this thread.

It is quite clear that the crowds in June, July and even early August are significantly larger! And Spring Break? Forget it!

Definitely curious about this as well... considering going the week of 8/21 or 8/28 in 2011. I've been the last week of July, how comparable is that heat/weather wise?

Talking time to travel

I think the end of August will be hot and fairly uncrowded. We went last year the first of Sept and it was great. We have also gone in late August and think the crowds are minimal. All I know is that time is getting short and we are getting super excited.

I'm going Aug 27th thru Aug 31st and according to everything I've checked it looks light! Yay! We don't have the dining plan and don't want to do any sit down ts restaurants so I don't anticipate problems...
