No more playground at Contemporary - where else to go?
We were disappointed to read that the playground is not being rebuilt at the Contemporary, or at least not in time for our visit in early January. It may be a bit too cold for the splash area, then, too. Where is there a playground nearby that we might be able to use? Can we use these facilities at the other monorail resorts or at the Wilderness Lodge? Our son needs a good amount of running around time separate from playing in the parks. We think the other hotel guests would probably prefer that he not run up and down the halls... He will be just 2 and a half, then, in case anyone thinks of other appropriate non-playground spots for him to blow off steam.
Thanks! |

I would take the boat over to Fort Wilderness. There is a lot of space for him to run around. We took our boys over there when we were staying at the Contemporary years ago. They had a blast. At the time, there was a playground and a petting zoo. If they are still there but I think that would be the best option.

I don't see any problems using another resorts playground and last month when I was there a Cast Member confirmed it's not being re-built.

Are there also playgrounds at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian? It just wasn't on my radar to check in my pre-baby stays!

just a thought...would he enjoy running up and down the beach and maybe playing with the sand? i plan to take bucket, shovel, and a couple shells for dc to play with in the sand just as an activity to do when we have some down time.
maybe that could be another activity for times when you aren't going to be going over to playgrounds but just want to give him some time to play

Yes we did see one at Fort Wilderness which my kids wanted to use but we were heading back to CR. In the future though i wouldnt hesitate to take the boat over for the kids to play their.

WL has a very nice playground right on the beach. It was never busy during our stay. I don't think it would be a problem at all for you to use it. Just take the CR/FW/WL boat over. You'll get a fun boat ride plus playground time. You can even take a shovel & bucket for sand play time.

You can use any recreational amenity at any other resort - except the swimming pools. So you can use a playground at any resort whether it's the resort you are staying in or not.
I would second FW as a great place to let kids blow off some steam. There are playgrounds, but there is also just plenty of room to run and play. |

I also vote for FW. We stayed at WLV last year with our twin 4 year old gkids in Sept. and walked, biked, and went to FW nearly early afternoon just to get rid of some of the energy that did not disappear in the pool and the parks. No petting zoo at FW but still lots of area to run, shout and explore. Also, the sandy beach area at Wilderness has lots of creative area so bring shovel, old cookie cutters, etc. and let them make sand creatures.

fw gets my vote too.
boy this is the first DVC (BLT) without a playground. that might be a problem with little kids - and BLT is definitely for families. once enough guests have stayed there - if there are enough complaints - they will add a playground - but probably not in time for your trip. |
