Anyone extend vacation after check in?

I did a search on this but didn't pull anything up. So has anyone ever checked in, then decided to extend their stay? Curious as to if your package would extend or not. I'm thinking no, like in the case of Free Dining and I know they set aside limited rooms for the package. Just curious though if anyone has done it, and how it worked.

We are doing 4 nights 5 days now, and I'm really wanting to extend it, but we are giving our DD some time in school before we decide if we want her to miss any more days or not. If her grades are just so/so we will leave it alone. If they are bad, we will have to cancel/reschedule. Right now she will only miss two days. We are driving so flights aren't a issue either.

TIA!

I was looking for info on this too, just in case we want to stay another night at the end of our vacation. It seems like if there was availability one could add another night, but hard to tell if they'd be able to tack-on 'free dining.' Anyone know about this one???

Because of flight changes we are staying another day. We are booked at CBR with the Military code. I called and tried to get another day added and there was no rooms available. This is for Sept. 19-26. So now we will move to the Dolphin for the extra night.. I am very excited, I wanted to try the Dolphin. So , I would guess it would depend on where you are staying and under what promotion. You might be able to stay at the same resort, but at rack rate. Good luck.

I had the same issue. My DH wanted to know why we are only staying for 7 days, not 8. Uh, maybe because that's what you told me to book! Anyway, I jumped at the chance to call and add an extra day. When I called CBR was booked. But she said just keep calling. 2 days later I called and there was an opening! So, just keep checking. I guess people are cancelling all the time! Good luck!

Quite a while ago we stayed an extra night at the Poly. While we were there we decided to add a day and had no problem.

In Feb 2009, weather prevented us from leaving on our scheduled departure date, so we added an extra day at the end of our stay at the AKL. The extra day was treated as a whole new reservation and not an extension of our existing reservation. As a result, I would expect that Free Dining (or anything like that) would not apply to the new reservation unless, in fact, there was availability for same.

We wanted to add one more day to our stay in April on the 4/3 deal but we didn't decide to do this until the fifth day of our stay. Rather than spending time trying to get something ourselves, we contacted our TA and let her do the footwork. Bottom line was that for one more night we would have had to switch to a different resort, not gotten a king bed, and paid rack rate. It just wasn't worth it to us.

They wont let you do it unless they have some notice. For example we had 6nights booked and 2 nights prior at Nick Hotel. My husband wasnt crazy about Nick and wanted me to call to see if we can add a night on with the free dining and come one day early (at this point it was a friday afternoon and were looking to check in on Saturday instead of Sunday). They did have rooms available but i was unable to get the free dining with it as they said they would have to have at least 4 days notice beforehand to do that. My husband was in disbelief that they didnt want his money for an extra night. We just stayed where we were until Sunday.

We were able to add an additional night at the Poly on the day we were scheduled to check out. Obviously there was availability, and we had to pay rack rate and you cannot add on days for dining. But we did it!

(this was several years ago...so things may have changed since then...like our budget!)

thanks for the replies everyone. So it looks like the general consensus is, if there is availability then you can add nights, but at rack rate. So we need to make a decision before final payment and add on nights then if possible.

Your best bet, though, is to go ahead and add the extra nights now, so you know you are getting the same package rate. Then, if you decide before you make your final payment that you DON'T want to stay the extra nights, just have those taken off. As long as you make the changes BEFORE you make your final payment, you shouldn't have to pay any penalties for the change. If you wait, there may not be any rooms at your rate, and you'll either have to pay rack rates, switch resorts, or not stay longer. I learned the hard way to go ahead and book for the whole time you are thinking of staying, and then cancel the days you need to. Make sense? Not sure when you're going or when your final payment is due, so hope this works out for you!

We stayed at POP 8/16-8/20. On the night b4 checkout we decided to extend our stay 1 more night. Called ressie's and they told us there were no openings but would put us on the list. Got a call the morning of checkout and was told they had an opening and at the same rate we were paying. and we didnt have to switch rooms(we had 2 connecting rooms). We did not get free dining for that night which was no big deal

We just did this for our current stay at POP. (leaving today though)

We had a 9 night stay initially, and after two days decided we loved it. I went to the front desk, asked if we could add a day, they checked availability and added it. We could not extend the free dining, but the room, as long as something is available, is never a problem. (Did this on a previous trip as well).

rm only rates are more flexible

You could add a room only rate at the end of your pkg. There is a 35% off rm only gen pub code now. It would be seperate res but if the resort is not full they will let you stay in your room. Just ck in and out again. The room only portion can be cancelled up to 5 days prior.

We always do 5 days in value with fd and switch to a few days with rm only discount code to a delux. This year we did assp and gf. There is always food left for the last day. So if you add the extra night, just save a few cs and snacks for the last pkg day and use them all day on the day you are in the rm only portion of your stay.

We are here now and shocked at how low the crowds are. We are here every year, the week before labor day and this year it is far less than the previous 4 years. I think it is the late labor day, many schools are back.
