Dinner for two at Ruby Tuesday for $2.50??

Here is how we've done it. Transfered a regular monthly prescription from one pharmacy to Rite Aid with a coupon for a $25 gift card. Our co-pay for this generic was $5. We use a flexible health care account, so that $5 is not actually $5 to my pocket but we'll just call it $5. I took the Rite Aid GC the pharmacy tech gave me, walked to the front of the store and looked at the rack of oher company's GC's they sell there at Rite Aid. They offer Amazon.com, Lowe's, Wendy's, etc. They even have Visa cash cards, but they have that up-front fee that I don't like to pay. Anyhow, I chose one of my fav places to eat, Ruby Tuesday. Purchased a $25 Ruby GC using the Rite Aid GC. The clerk said she'd never seen it done before (GC using a GC), but it worked fine. Ruby has BOGO entree coupons out there everywhere. Wife and I both ate great pasta dishes, used coupon, paid with GC, and still had about HALF of the $25 left on the GC. So, we are getting two meals at Ruby for one $5 co-pay that we would have needed to have filled anyway.

We usually ...
go to Target Pharmacy has $10 for a NEW script.
Rite Aid has $25 for transfer.

So any scripts we get we fill at Target first, then transfer to Rite Aid for 2nd month. If it goes into a 3rd month we often find coupons for KMart Pharmacy or Weis Markets (local grocery store with gas pumps, they often have $1 off per gallon of gas with transfer script with 20 gallon limit). The 4th month you can bounce it back into another Rite Aid for another $25 and start the process all over again.

This is very YMMV. Technically, Rite Aid employees are not supposed to allow you to buy another GC using a Rite Aid GC. Obviously, the check out registers aren't programmed to stop it (since it worked for OP), so if you get the right check out person you're lucky. But don't count on being allowed to do it.

My stores have clamped down on the buying a GC with a GC angle. I convert my Rite Aid GC's to cash by using the GC to pay for free after rebate items (money refunded by check). If you combine with coupons, you can usually even cover the tax you pay to get the free items. Then you have money and free stuff and can go eat wherever you want!

CVS you can not use a cvs gift card to purchase any other type of a gift card. CVS is also cutting back on giving out cvs gcs, it cant be a perscription that you tranfered out and then transfer back in. they have signs all over about it. Dominicks gc you can purchase other type of cg's but you can only transfer on pers. per household. Osco gc you can use on other types of gc's.

I filled a prescription at CVS just yesterday that had been there before, transferred to Target then transferred to Walgreens and then back to CVS. I took a Rite Aid $25 transfer coupon and they gave me a CVS gift card. So I guess it depends on the store

maybe because you used a Rite Aid coupon and not a CVS coupon.
and i guess it would depend on the cvs employee if they are updated on the new cvs coupon.

Agree that YMMV on this one. OP got lucky being able to purchase a GC with another GC. My local Walgreens only allows you to pay for GCs with cash (to prevent CC fraud).

DH received a gift card from someone he did some work for, It was either MC or visa I tried to use it a the Shoprite when food shopping and it would'nt work unless it was the exact amount so when I got home I went onto the Shoprite website and purchased a shoprite gift card for the same amount on the card and was able to use it the next time I went food shopping. FYI, I have tried this a few times with CVS and the giftcard that they give you specifically says on the back that you can't use the cvs giftcard for other giftcards. YMMV though!
