Questions about fave. shows, ship tour, eating at CC, gty rooms etc. etc.

Hi everyone,
I have been compiling more questions to ask and think it is time.
If anyone can answer these it would be great!

1. What is your favorite night show not to miss? I know we want to see Golden Mickey's for sure.
2. Can anyone tell me what the dif. between Cookies BBQ and Serenity Bay food is? Is it the same in 2 different locations?
3. Someone mentioned to shower in the spa locker room. After using a pool or working out are we allowed to do this?
4. It is our first cruise and I am thinking about the ship tour. Should we do this? Also, how do I know if they offer beer tastings etc. to sign up for on the first day. I want to be prepared to know what to sign up for.
5. Can anyone explain the gty. room request. If I do not have a gty. room does that mean I can get to port and they have moved me up to a higher room category and it is not free? I would have to pay for that higher room category?

Thanks!

I can answer a few of your questions.
1) To be honest, I liked them all and wouldn't want to have missed any of them. On the first and last nights there are shows that mix whatever entertainers are onboard and the show cast; these were enjoyable variety shows. Golden Mickeys was great, I liked Twice Charmed just as much, and I wish I would have gone to the matinee for Disney Dreams so I could have seen that show twice!

3) The shower in the locker room felt roomier than the one in the stateroom, and you can use it after working out. The showers in the Rainforest Room require you to have a RR pass and to wear a bathing suit, as they are coed.

4) The ship tour is worth doing if you haven't spent the last 18 months studying the deck plans as I had.

5) GTY room assignment is for people who don't choose a room, or people who book when a given category is almost full. You can get upgraded with an assigned room or a guaranteed room, and you won't have to pay extra. On my cruise somebody in a cat 5 was upgraded to cat 4 for free; about a month out I got a call from Disney offering a paid upgrade from cat 9 to cat 6 for $300. Had I not accepted the upgrade offer I probably would have been in a cat 9 room.

!. Golden Mickeys vs. Disney Dreams. Dreams was updated about a year ago, so if you're been gone that long, it's worth seeing again.

2.Serenity Bay has everything Cookies has + more. They are commonly grilling steaks for steak sandwiches. They sometimes have lobster (might depend on whether there's any left from the night before).

3. The showers in the spa locker rooms are available for use after working out. To use them after swimming you'd have to walk thru the spa in a wet suit--I haven't seen that done. There are additional showers in the rainforest area which are available if you've paid for the rainforest.

4. Depending on your cruise, there are beer, martini, etc. tastings for a small fee. Worth doing if you're into that. There is a ship's tour on the first day..again, no sign up but worth doing at least once. If you're on the Magic with kids, Tea with Alice is free but needs a ticket--get it at GS on day 1.

5. You will never PAY for an upgrade unless you are asked and agree to it. GTY means that the selected category is nearly or fully sold out and they are not allowing you to choose a stateroom in that category. You will sail in at least that category or nicer for free. It gives you the best chance of a free upgrade. Recently, DCL has been calling guests 30-75 days in advance (or their TAs) and trying to sell upgrades at a reduced price. It's up to you to accept or reject that offer at their price. This is a relatively new thing as they are not filling ships and are attempting to maximize their profits from each cabin sold. In addition, you can attempt to buy an upgrade at the port if desired.

If you buy gty and they upgrade you, it will be free. For instance, we booked a 12 gty and were assigned a 10. A friend booked a 12 gty and was assigned a 9. She then paid to upgrade to a balcony.

When are you going to be cruising? The shows are going to be changing on both ships in 2010. The Golden Mickeys is going to be replaced with a Villians show. The latest word is that it will return after being updated on the new ships.

The Golden Mickeys are my favorite! At least I will get to see them in November.

Uh-oh. We are cruising in Feb. 2010. Does that mean no more Golden Mickeys? I was looking forward to this after hearing about it.
