Walking the 3 Day

I am walking in The 3 Day Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure here in Philadelphia in October. The whole thing hadn't been all that personal to me since the last week. I want to share a letter I just wrote to some of my friends. I don't know if it's appropriate to post my fundraising link on here or not, so I won't. But I want to encourage everyone to donate to a walker if they have the opportunity. Here's my letter:

Dear Friends,

I apologize for the mass email. Perhaps you have already received a request from me for a donation to my effort to reach my goal of $2300 for The 3 Day walk to find a cure for breast cancer. I am asking my friends, once again, to show their support for this very worthy cause.

Last Tuesday, a friend of mine named Linda succumbed after a fight with various forms of cancer, including breast cancer, that lasted 10 years. Linda was 48 and leaves behind a loving husband and 10 year old twin daughters. As I sat in her memorial service yesterday, I cried thinking about how this family will go on without their wife and mother. Could my husband and daughter do it? Should they have to? Could your family go on without their wife, mother, sister, or friend? Should they have to?

The 60 mile walk I am about to undertake has gone from being "doing something for a good cause" to doing something so that no other little girls will have to live without their mom, like Marissa and Sierra now will.

Will you help me? I am just over $800 away from my goal. I know I have generous friends. I know times are hard. Can you spare $5? Can you skip a coffee or two this week? Can you spare $100? Can you spare an evening out with a nice dinner and a movie? Why? Because everyone deserves a lifetime.

With all my love,
Mari

Nice letter!

If I am laid off soon, I hope to join my wife in this walk.

Preparing for the walk has been an amazing experience in itself. I never really "got" how many families have been touched by breast cancer.

I have walked it twice, and crewed once -in memory of my mom, and in honor of many friends. It really is an amazing experience. Even if you can't participate as a walker, I would encourage anyone in a city w/ a 3Day event to attend either Opening or Closing ceremonies. I guarantee you it will have an impact.

OP--Best of luck w/ training and fundraising!!!!!!!!!!
