Drive or take bus to Hoop-Di-Doo?

We will have our car, if we drive what are the procedures. Where do you catch an internal bus? Would it be easier to take Disney Transportation from MK?

The best way to get to the HDDR is to get yourself to the MK and ride the boat over. It docks right in the area where the HDDR is. You cant miss it. It may take a bit, but so can trying to drive yourself through teh FW grounds.

If you are already at Mk, then taking the boat to FW is your best bet. If you are driving from your hotel, it may be easier to drive. If you know your way around and can easily get from your hotel to FW, then simply park in the lot for HDDR(this lot has a separate entrance and no guard gate, if FW is on your left it is the second entrance if FW is on your right it is the first entrance). After you park, walk to the bus depot, near the horse stable, and board a yellow or purple bus headed to Settlement, you can also take orange, but it is the longest trip to Settlement. When the show is over board yellow or purple to Outpost, and walk to your car.

If you are staying at an MK area resort the MK route is probably faster than driving. If you are at CR you can take a boat to FW(it will stop at WL first, but on the way home it will go to CR first). If you are at WL you also have the option of a very short bus ride to FW or even a walking trail.

For the second and third seating times there will be a bus that will take you back to your resort. So taking the bus to MK and then hopping on the boat to WL is the best choice. Just allow yourself plenty of time.

From MK it is a short boat ride across, simple and easy...we did it a week ago............much longer by car and bus as it is "inside" area you must reach.

Our experience 8/25/09: bus nightmare

Getting to the HDDR was not bad. We took a bus from our resort to MK and picked up the boat to Fort Wilderness. HOWEVER, coming home was a nightmare. After the show, there are buses to pick you up to get you to your resort. We were on a crowded bus for an hour before getting to our resort. We stopped at POR, POFQ, OKW, SSR, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club, and then finally Beach Club (where we were staying). Ugh, it was dreadful. If I knew it was going to be that bad, I would have taken the ferry back to MK and picked up our resort transportation bus. Just want to point out that the last ferry that runs from FW to MK is at 9:30pm. I wasn't sure what show you were seeing.

If I had a car, hands down, I would have used it to get to and fro HDDR.

The above poster provided wrong information as shown in red above. This is simply not true.

The 2 green flag motor cruisers running between the MK and the FWC cease operations 1+ hours after the MK closes.

Additionally, there are 2 blue flag motor launches serving the FWC, CR and WL on Bay Lake that run until 11:30 pm regardless of the MK closing time.

No ferries serve the FWC - ferry boats only run between the TTC and the MK.

Thanks for the information. We were told on the MK to FW boat by the captain that the last boat running from FW to MK was at 9:30pm. I didn't realize that there were other boat or ferry or cruiser options other than the boat we were on. To the OP, sorry for the apparently inaccurate information on my part.

Dunno if it matters....

We were just there on 8/23. We took the bus from our resort CBR to MK, and boat to FW. It was smooth, quick and easy. Now at the HDDR they serve all you can drink wine, sangria, and beer... I didn't drink but my hubby was pretty happy when we left. I would not want to drive in Disney so the bus back to our resort was great. A tad on the rowdy side, felt like a sober cab on St Patty's day, but my youngest just slept through it. We did have to go to Boardwalk, and POP before being dropped off at CBR. IMO, much easier to bus it. We had our car all week and only drove the first day to get some groceries.

Seconded... the boat from Magic Kingdom drops you off right near the building where the HDDR is... if you drive to Fort Wilderness, you have to park 3/4 mile away and take a bus to the building... or walk...

The walk can actually be fun, around Christmas time. We really enjoyed walking thru the campground, looking at all the Christmas lights and decorations.

A last boat from the MK to the FWC at 9:30pm would only be true if the MK closed at 8 pm and there were no evening EMHs or other separate ticketed event at the MK - like parties.

Have they changed the transportation since 2005? I tried to take a bus after the show to my resort and it was a NIGHTMARE. I had to go to DTD and switch but that was after taking an internal bus at FW to the outpost or something. I just remember it being a nightmare.

I was planning on taking the boat back to MK and getting on our resort bus from there, this time around. Can I take a bus from FW to POP?

Where do you catch the Ferry at MK? Where is it located exactly?

The ferry boat dock is located to your left when you exit the MK and is on the way to and just before the MK WDW bus area. You'll see a long green canopy with a sign on the gable end that says something like "Ferry Boat to the Transportation and Ticket Center and Parking Lot".
