Question POP or POR? SOS!!

We are planning a trip to the World in late Aug. 2010, staying for 7 days. Our group will include 2 seniors, a preschooler, 3 adults and 4 school aged kids divided among 3 rooms. We are trying to decide between Pop Century and PO Riverside, and are deadlocked. (Splitting up the party between resorts is not an option.)

Since none of us have stayed at either resort before, we are looking for opinions and experiences that may help us decide.

Are the POR rooms that much larger? Are the ameneties worth the extra $$? Is staff service superior at one or the other? Transportation? The grandparents and 2 littlest ones will probably return to the rooms during the day to rest, while the rest of party will hardly see the rooms at all.

Any advice?

I love both resorts, but there really is so much more to enjoy at POR. The complex is beautiful with big trees. You can fish with a cane pole. It's a beautiful relaxing ride down the river to DTD.

I have stayed at both, and if I had to pick which one to stay at again, it would be Riverside. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is great for kids, we loved the food court. The boat to Downtown Disney is a plus. We did not like POP, it just seemed too busy to us. We like things to move at a slower pace. Also, the rooms were so small at POP. We just chalked our POP experience up to you get what you pay for. We now choose to pay more!

I've stayed at both. Look at my signature. You'll see, there is only one choice for my family.

ditto everyone else. Great for food court, pools, even the entertainment (Bob plays the piano) is family oriented!

Have never stayed at either, but I agree with the majority -- POR. I will always pick a moderate over a value if you are planning on spending any time at the resort and seeing that you are going in August, I would assume you'll have some afternoon breaks at the pool--so definitely POR. If you are only sleeping and showering then go with the value.

Just got back from POR (last week)---beautiful grounds and good pool. food court is also a plus. (IMO) Although I have never stayed at any of the value resorts--they just seem to be a bit more busy than the rest. Enjoy your planning.

POR!! We've never stayed at POP, but we loved POR. There's so much to do there, the food court is great, and in Aug. it is HOT, HOT, HOT but the walkways are tree lined so you have some shade. The kids can go on the Pirate adventure there too and there's cane fishing.

I have stayed at both Pop and POR, and they both have their pros and cons. Personally, I prefer the moderate hotels. The rooms are slightly bigger and you get a fridge in the room.

I think the transportation at Pop is better than it is at the POR. There is only one stop, and the bus isn't shared by any other resort, so you don't make a lot of stops on the way. At the POR, you share a bus with the POFQ, and there are several stops in the POR, so that adds a few minutes to your rides.

The POR has a boat to DTD, and I really enjoy that ride. It's a nice break from the buses.

I find that the value resorts are a bit more busy than the moderates. The moderates are a lot more laid back, and relaxing.

Both of them have great food courts.

If it were me, I'd pick the POR side. Other than transportation, I think it's a better choice.

Thanks, all! This really helps. I think we will try to squeeze some more $$ out of the budget, or economize elsewhere, and go for the mod option.
