Our neighbor behind us is an accounting office. Their entrance faces the back of our house, which is where our bedrooms are. Yesterday they decided to fix the floodlights around the house. Now I have 2 powerful floodlights shining into my bedroom and my sons. My DD is lucky her room isn't facing there.They were on last night and DH went and spoke with the owner who said they will be turned off. They were, but now the office is empty and the lights are blazing. I am so mad. We lived here a year and a half and they suddenly need floodlights.

I would suggest eeither wire cutters or rocks. A shotgun within the city limits may be too illegal.

Is there a reason they all of a sudden chose to turn them on? Theft?

We have a neighbor that is big on the flood lights and we are in the country so it's very dark without them on - and you can land planes with them on.

My next door neighbor got into it with them. She even brought over a lower wattage bulb for them to use. Turned into a shouting match. They ended up buying 2 HUGE evergreens to block it. Thankfully we also have a tree that blocks most of it.

We have the same situation; big floodlights from a neighboring building shining directly into our bedroom. I understand their need and right to ensure safety on and protection of their property. We just needed to do a better job covering our windows and doors.

We installed heavy curtains that extended well past the edges of the window openings. Worked great. The bedroom is now darker than it would be without the floodlights with the window coverings we had before.

After a break in, we installed motion sensitive floods on an historic home/investment property we owned about 6 years ago. Before installation, we explained the situation to our neighbors, made sure the light was not directly pointed at their bedroom windows, and everyone was happy. In the end, they understood that the lights protected their home as well.

J C Penneys has room darkening blackout window treatments. (put blackout into their search engine)
Maybe something like that would help?

Ask them to adjust them where they are pointed so they don't hit your bedroom window quite so much.

Ask them to buy sensor lights so the lights only go on if someone/something is actually back there to "trip" the sensor.

Buy room darkening window treatments.

As the lights are commerical and you are residential, contact your local municipality. There may be ordinances regarding this.

i was going to suggest this as well.

where we used to live the buisnesses that were behind residential homes had MAJOR restrictions on what kind of lights they could use, how they were angled and what hours they could be on. a call to the city planning department could get you some good information on weather it's even legal for them to be installed.

a call could also let you know what the rules for the buisness are in general in case they are violating others you are'nt aware of.

Our bedroom faces the street and we have flood lights, so we bought room darkening shades. They work very well. We live in a nice neighborhood but I feel even safer with all the lights.

Before you get your panties any more in a bunch, talk to them again. If I'm reading correctly they were responsive when dh talked to them, and then the lights were on. Is it possible they're on an automatic sensor and the employees didn't realize that they'd come on after they left? I would talk to them again, nicely, and see if it makes a difference. You've been given lots of great suggestions to bring to them including lower wattage bulbs and moving the spots to shine down to the ground more, etc. IF the situation still isn't resolved THEN I'd get your panties in a bunch and call the town or whatever.

Maybe if you are in an advanced society, I mean commuity, you know.... with tons of rules? One of the rules around here has addressed light pollution. which is just what it seems, people spewing their light all over your property.

our local towns are very proactive when it comes to light encroaching onto neighbor's properties.
