Gummy Bears - why bears?

Think about it. Someone creates this new (at the time) gummy textured candy. They decide to flavor it in fruit flavors. Where the heck did they get bear shapes out of that idea? Wouldn't gummy fruit be a logical thought?

It's not like we have other bear shaped candy.

And then that leads someone else to gummy worms?

And of course gummy vitamins. Which I'm completely in favor of. In any shape. I love my vitamins to taste like candy.

But we do have another bear shaped candy, anise bears were around a lot longer then gummi bears.

I am pretty sure the first gunny bears were made by the German company Haribo (who still makes the BEST of the gunny candies IMO). They came out with their "gold bear" in 1922. A bear was chosen both because teddy bears were very popular at the time (so likely to sell well) and the owner was fascinated by the dancing bears of former times (in fact it was sometimes refered to as the "dancing bear" candy).

I like bears, and worms. :D

I use the worms to make "dirt cake" sometimes.

I LOVE Gummy Vites vitamins.

Two will give 50% of a RDA daily supply for adults. So I have two in the am and 2 in the pm with a meal. And I get my gummy bears fix that way.

I wish they'd make a Gummy Complete vitamin with ALL the essential viatims & minerals.

The yellow leave a nasty after taste. Since I have two, I always eat the yellow first, then another color afterwards.

I recently bought the new One-A-Day VitaCraves Gummies complete adult multivitamin.

Oddly enough, you need to take 2 a day.

These are my first gummy vitamins and I believe I'm hooked. However, I needed to by gummy bear candy also so I wouldn't eat the vitamins like candy.

Some of the gummy vitamins in the store didn't say adult, so I wasn't sure on the RDA limits.

Well obviously I had no idea the DIS would hold so much wonderful information besides that of WDW. I'm new to the gummy world and did not know of this history as evidenced by my first post obviously. Thank you for the knowledge.

That's because you just can't eat ONE gummy vitamin.

The back of the Gummy Vites says one bear for ages 2-4, and ages 4 & up, which I'm assuming includes adults, are 2 bears. If you compare the back of the Flintstones Complete, (not gummies,) their 100% of mgs of a vitamin is same RDA for ages 4 & Up as on the labels for other regular "adult" vitamins. Drugstore.com has good listings of the different amounts in different brand vitamins for comparisons.

I have a hard time swallowing pills, so chewing vitamins packaged for "kids" is perfect for me. Even if I have to take an extra one to get the full RDA, I am a lot better off than when I didn't take a vitamin at all.

Also, I checked how much of a particular vitamin I could take before overdosing on it. Most of the vitamins that store in the body, as opposed to the ones where you simply pee the excess out, a person would have to take (usually) about 500-1000 times the RDA daily. So there really isn't much of a problem chewing an extra kids vitamin each day.

Sometime ago, I started having trouble swallowing and keeping down my multi-vitamin for some reason. And had actually stopped taking them. No problems with other pills. Mentioned it to my doctor recently and she suggested childrens chewables like Flintstones. It was while looking at those at the store that I noticed the new One-A-Day Gummi for adults. I had no idea they made gummies for adults. I'm now hooked.

I wish there was a good tasting iron chewable or gummy. I don't think they make one yet. I found out last month that I have severe iron-deficiency anemia. I have to try to swallow a horse pill every day. Since I need so much more iron than the rest of the multi-vitamins, I wish I could find only iron as a chewable or gummy so I could take a few of those instead of the horse pill.

Thanks for posting this. I thought it was an intersting thing and hoped you were possibly intereseted in information but I was afraid it was just a rhetorical question and you would be ticked with a "real" answer Glad to know that is not the case. Hmmm, gummy vitamens sound good.

no problem.
What happened was I bought the gummy vitamins, but then I really wanted to each more than just 2 of those a day. So I had to go back to the store to buy gummy bears so I wouldn't eat the vitamins like candy.

And while bored last night, my mind wandered. And there you go. A post about nothing.
