special room clean for immunosuppresion???

HI, Long time lurker here. I've learned alot just for everyday life and in my practice as a RN thanks to you all.
Am going to WDW in Mid Nov for a girls only vacation and staying at ASMU. Will use TGM, fast pass,RD, etc. We do not need a GAC. My friend has recently finished up chemo and radiation. (and doing excellent) We will take it easy and spend more time laughing than getting anywhere in a hurry. LOL And with RD and TGM we will take it at her pace. If we have to, she will rent a mobility device but as it's adults only we really can take it slow if need be.
My questions is can we get a really in depth room clean . We will bring wipes and of course wipe down every surface, remote, etc... but it would also be ice to know that the carpet and perhaps everything else has been extra cleaned, etc.
Do any of you think this will make a difference? How much extra will this cost and who do we call. ( I saw a thread downstream regarding allergens, so it did say just room ressie agents are fine )
Oh and I even read the FAQ Sticky!!LOL I am a good disser

Thanks!!
Liz

Thanks for reading everything. I was going to refer you to the post about cleaning, but you even read that!

The phone number listed in that thread is for Special Reservations - which would be the appropriate place to call with your concern.
If it were me, I guess I would bring disinfectant wipe and wipe down all the frequently touched items that may not get wiped down - doorknobs, TV remote (if you are a nurse in a hospital, you probably know the drill) LOL

Also, bring some alcohol handrub and have your friend use it (heck, have everyone use it) frequently.

Being an Infection Control Specialist, I would say not to worry about the carpet - I would probably take the bedspread off or at least roll it down. But no one actually gets infections from carpets.

We found them to be very accomodating this May. I had spoken with the special needs line and followed up with a letter to the resort manager. I had a spotless room..

I have a question I hope someone can answer for me. This is a gentle question and not meant to be sarcastic.

I have read posts that people needed there rooms extra clean, but what about the busses, rides, restaurants, bathrooms, etc.

Is the room extra important because there is no sunlight coming in and the germs multiply? How do people deal with the germs in all the other places?

I really don't know and have always wondered this.

I do not know if I can answer it either, but I would assume that sleeping on pillows and breathing in potential germs from folks who may have had something infectious would mean constant exposure for 8 hrs whereas passing through an area is a temporary thing. I know that when my immune system is down, I have to constantly use wipes. Some folks on chemo, for example need to be as air fresh as possible and use their own car, do not use the busses, and stay away from crowded places, but may still wish to stroll through EPCOT, for example.

Usually these folks do not do the buffetts , for example as so many hands have touched the serving utensils, but would ask for a served meal and use wipes prior to eating.

I do not know if this helped at all, but it is only a possible prospective.

Thanks. That does make sense about the pillows and mattresses. I wonder if they can bring a mattress cover from home to put over them.

Actually, I believe what they do when necessary is strip the bed, spray with something llike lysol, put on a clean matress pad and linens and a fresh bedspread that has not been jumped on by children's dirty feet or been the scene of who knows what...( diaper changes, etc.)

For us and our need of the deep cleaning for the room is due to allergies by my dd. A bus is not all that likely to get dusty or moldy or any pf the other strong allergens that can set my dd's asthma and allergies off. Restaurants are pretty much the same as we are not there all that long. There are ways to wipe down the ride areas and such if a person needs that.

Also, for us, we have a car that we will probably use rather than bus transportation as I would prefer to be able to leave when I want and not have to wait especially when I am in pain.

ETA: I know for our reservation we have a request that the stuff be washed in fragrance free soaps. The CM I worked with yesterday was absolutely wonderful. I so wish I would not have forgotten her name. I was just so excited to get our changes made and add dining on and pay it all off. We have 1 month to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Besides the other answers - you will be in a bus for a few minutes and if you touch things - well, your hands are easily cleanable. Germs on the hands are not a problem; they need to get into the body to cause any problems. So, if someone cleans their hands frequently, the germs are not going to have much chance to get into the body (and especially if hands are cleaned before eating/drinking, before touching eyes, nose, mouth or anything that goes into/touches those).

When you think about the room, even if you don't spend much time during the day there, you will be spending many hours there at night.
