Small World Question

Our family just returned, and my 6-year-old DS wants to know what happens to the Small World boats when the ride shuts down for the night. (Do they just continue to float in the ride route? Is there a dock backstage where they "park" for the night?)
Anyone?

Thanks!!!

They stop traveling because they shut down the water pumps that propel them.
They can either stay "out" or be "put away."

They can move the boats off the main area of the ride into the back to inspect the boats. They look for any issues with the sides and bottom of the boats and make sure the interior of the boats are not damaged. They will also inspect the safety systems and and the mechanics of the ride system. After that they will run all of the boats throught the ride to make sure it works before opening the attraction in the morning.

Just to add to the previous posts, if you look closely during the ride there are areas where the boats can be moved backstage. There's so much to see on the ride, you almost have to be looking for the exit areas.

Now you have to plan another trip so your DS can see if he can find the exit areas!

They continue going around. The ghosts from the Haunted Mansion get to come out at night and ride the Small World ride.

Ironically, he found one of them, which is what lead to this whole line of questioning. The problem is that (I think) he spotted where the boats come OUT of the maintenance bay, so now he's convinced there are water jets to make the boats go backwards into the bay. I have tried to explain that we just didn't see the entrance to the maintenance bay, but you can imagine how THAT went...I'm just a Mom, what do I know? Obviously we WILL be making another trip if for no other reason than to prove I do too know!!

I guess the bigger question remains...is there only one maintenance bay, or more than one? (Exactly how many times around the loop are we looking at to spot them all??!! )

LOL!!
I actually told my DS this. He got wide eyes and then grinned and started to laugh. He's still at the age of "believing", so in his mind all of the above answers are completely reconcilable.

Thank you all again!! You totally made his night!!!

IIRC, there's one towards the beginning (entrance) and one towards the end (exit) with several rides exits in b/w. I used to work @ a local amusement park, so I look for these sort of things.

You need to read "Kingdom Keepers" by Ridley Pearson (the first one, not the 2nd one).

It's on my bookshelf to read!! I almost packed it for the flight for this last trip, but chickened out...I didn't want to have nightmares AT Disney!!
The book haunted me the entire trip, though...everywhere I looked, there it was!!

Okay...off to pull it off the shelf and read it!!

That sounds like something my sons would have wanted to know when they were that age. They wanted to know how everything worked - and took most of their toys apart to see.
