Staying at DL Resort Hotels with 5 People

We are planning on getting some annual passes and taking a few weekend trips through out the year. We decided it will be cheaper than a lengthy stay at WDW.

The website offered me a standard room at the Grand Californian but I cant see where the 5th person would sleep.

Can anyone tell me which hotel they stayed in with 5 people and possibly the price range? (The room at the GC was about $370 a night for the time I was looking.)

THANKS!!!

My understanding is that a number of rooms have a day bed (not sure which of the DLR hotels) and if not they have more than enough room for a roll away. I think the DLR standard rooms are about as big as my first appartment (if not bigger!!)

I have also noticed that there are rooms at Paradise Pier Hotel with daybeds that will sleep a maximum of 5 people. We also canceled our trip to WDW and booked DLR due to extra savings.

At the GCH, if you don't get a room with a daybed, and you have 5 people, they will give you a sleeping bag. Yep, you read right, a sleeping bag to sleep on the FLOOR. How's that for $370 a night?

We've stayed at both GCH and DLH with 5. DLH has a lot of rooms with 2 queens and a daybed, and the rooms tend to be larger than those at GCH, which has far fewer daybed rooms than DLH. GCH does have bunk bed rooms that have a queen and 2 bunks with a roll-out trundle for a 3rd child, but be aware that they are small bunks/trundle and will not work for an adult or larger child. I've heard PPH has larger rooms, too, but I've not stayed there. DLH has rollaways, but GCH does not. You can request a daybed room or a bunkbed room but they will not guarantee it, so if you end up with 2 queens at GCH and need something for a 5th person, they will bring you a mat and a sleeping bag.

What are your dates? If you're getting annual passes, you can ask for the AP rate, which might/should be cheaper for a standard room than your $370 quote. You either have to call and ask for the ap rate or I can look it up for you on the ap section of the website (you can access it after you have a pass and register it). The only problem with that is you can't see rates more than 3 months out.

Well..... it's odd for a hotel, but I have to say that for 5 people $370 is $74 a person for a very nice hotel. If one of those 5 is a little kid, not bad at all.

Thanks for all the quick replies!

I think I may look into the DLH. We've never stayed at any of the resorts because at the last minute I always decide to go with an off site to save money but my hubby says the whole point to doing DL this year will be to stay ON site. We pay a HUGE amount to stay at Old Key West in WDW so even $370 seems cheap by comparison. I will look into the AP rate.

Im excited about getting reacquainted with Disneyland again.. its been years since weve been.. and we live about an hour away!

We had 5 this past Dec. @ the PP ~ my mom & Gma were with us. We had a room w/ a day bed, I'm pretty sure I slept on it, that way my mom and Gma shared a bed with one of my kids.

Does anyone else smell a possible snowball effect landing in APs for Melora and family?

Enjoy!

I'm used to paying $74 TOTAL for 5 people per night at a very nice hotel (HoJo). Yep, I actually like it better than the GCH (and I can visit GCH lobby and restaurants for FREE!). So personally, I think it's an outrageous price for a place to sleep, and beyond ridiculous to pay that for sleeping on the floor.

To the OP, of the 3 DLR hotels I have stayed at, I enjoyed the DLH the best. We had a DTD view in the Dreams tower.

I think for a family of five either the PPH or DLH work best. GCH doesn't have rollaways and as Dangermouse said, it can very well be a sleeping bag. Years ago, my kids might have liked that, now, not so much! And the bunks are too short for my son (and probably my dd too by now). So GCH doesn't work for us anymore. And the rooms while lovely and very, very nice, are small and a bit dark for my taste.

At the DLH, if you don't get a daybed, rollaways are free and actually my kids prefer those. The daybeds at the DLH are fine, but not nearly as comfy as the PPH daybeds. Those are actual sofa beds (twin sized) and very comfortable. And to the best of my knowledge, ALL rooms at PPH have a sofa that makes into a bed.

I have no idea what the DLH rooms will be like post refurb. If they'll have a daybed in some of them and still have the rollaways. I hope so, that's been a nice feature for us for many onsite stays.

We had APs for a couple of years in a row then we took a few trips to WDW which cost a small fortune. So while we were there last week and melting from the heat and thinking about how much we spent to tour in a sauna with wall to wall people my hubby suggested we take less than half the money we spent and buy APs for Disneyland and stay on site a few times over the next year.

I LOVED the idea!

We just returned from the GCH with a family of 5. We had a queen size bed (felt more like a full) a set of bunkbeds and a trundle that pulled out from under the bunk
