Just returned from the Wilderness Lodge
We just returned from a 9-night stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Before I start with my feelings on this trip I have to admit that the WL is my favorite resort. We’ve stayed at resorts in all categories and the WL just has that something special that makes us return. A little bit of peace in this increasingly busy and difficult world we live in
. However… I wouldn’t be telling the full tale if I didn’t take of the rosy glasses and admit the issues we noted during this trip ![]() First the positives: All of my room requests were granted! We ended up with one of the “bear faced” rooms! We had a gorgeous view of the EWP twice a night (once at the WL and once at the FW). The view of the lake with the boats and the view of the stream were calming. The CM provided a pin at check in for my son’s b-day and later during the trip he received a signed card from Mickey Mouse ![]() Transportation by boat and bus was timely. We rarely waited long for either – although I wouldn’t take the bus to DTD again….. ![]() Second the negatives: Mousekeeping was poor this trip. Depending on who cleaned either the bath area or the bed area was sloppy. Also a stain on the carpet in one of the hallways was left all week. Towels were piled up around the pool area and the main pool had quite a bit of leaves that weren’t cleaned out properly. Noise – Though we loved our room location the WCC noise was heard. It wasn’t a problem for us but those with young children might consider asking for a different room location. We heard something from our room that we couldn’t quite figure out. Possibly a mousekeeping closet or staff elevator???? Also on the last evening the smoking foul mouthed neighbors that finally drove mom off the balcony ![]() Roaring Forks – I have a food allergy that makes it difficult to find options. One night I ended up with bread and cheese (purchased earlier off-site) as I didn’t want the only option available– French fries….. ![]() Third the final thoughts: The Wilderness Lodge is still my favorite resort. The charm of this small resort nestled in the pines brings a calmness to my crazy world that I don’t often find. From hearing the words “welcome home” at the guard shack, to the valets that ensure the car is cool by the time I step inside, to the mercantile that stocks Sprite Zero – wish Roaring Forks would change their fountain to this, to the balcony and gorgeous views morning and night - I couldn’t have wished for more

WL is our favorite place too! A little calm oasis after the craziness in the parks all day. We'll be there in a few weeks--can't wait!!
