Inexpensive, but durable, bean bag chairs?

I'm a high school reading teacher and I'm trying to create an independent reading area in my room. (I had a couch last year, it was on it's last leg.) I was thinking bean bag or video rocker chairs around a shag type rug. The only issue with my idea is that it is expensive. I will be paying for everything on my own. Any suggestions, ideas, or stores where I can find these things would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My kids got theirs from JC Penney.

But IMO, I wouldn't get bean bag chairs.

I am not sure what age you want the kids to read but with the possibility of head lice, bean bags are not super easy to clean. I can tell you that since my oldest got lice when she was in Kindy & we emptied the bean bag & washed it in hot water. It was not fun!

I got my bean bags for my classroom from Big Lots a few years ago. I think they were around $20 each. They were in race car driver pattern, not my favorite, but work just fine!

We bought one at Target last year for about $20. Beanbag chairs are hard to find in area until around Christmastime. Maybe you can find the fake leather ones if you're worried about cleaning them. The ones in Target are fabric though.

You can find this stuff everywhere now the the BTS sales! Target comes to mind first-they had bean bages, cool rugs, etc this week-but I'm sure other places do as well now!

We bought our kids bean bag chairs from Target and Walmart last Fall. They cost $30-40 with shipping. The ones in the stores were all filthy and stained, not a very nice Christmas present, so we had to order them. The outside can't be removed to wash so when they get ratty, they'll be gone.

If you sew, it's easy enough to make the outside -- just use denim fabric and sew flat-fell seams for sturdiness. Fabric/craft stores sell the "bean" stuffing in the foam/stuffing/batting section for about $10. For a high-schooler, you might need to use more than one bag of beans. (You can also use foam peanuts, but they compress quickly.)

This place http://www.ultimatesack.com/builder.asp?size=5 is having a sale, $200 for just the cover. I'm so glad I can sew! Maybe you can ask the PTA for sewing volunteers for your program. There are a lot of parents who don't want to be on a committee, but would contribute their talents if there was a need.

The students in our school like the camping chairs (the ones that come in bags) to relax in. They're under $10 and I think would hold up better than bean bags.
