Will I be disappointed at GF?

Hi Everyone! I just made my reservations for my honeymoon in Aug 2010. We are booked in a garden view room for 7 nights at the Grand Floridian. I have never stayed there before and we are really pushing the budget to stay there as it is. (We got engaged at the Poly in Jan 09 and they upgraded us from Garden view to Concierge MK view, so we're a little spoiled)We just can't afford to reserve the MK view this time. Are there any garden view rooms that are just terrible? What building/room could we request to boost our chances of having a nice view?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

All I can tell you is this...whenever we go to the GF for a meal or whatever it doesnt feel like Disney to me, it feels too foofy if that makes any sense....EXCEPT at Xmas time, then that place is gorgeous with the huge tree, the gingerbread house and the live band playing Xmas carols, and I cannot wait to stay there this Dec...

If it were me I would prefer to stay at the Poly with a water view or the BWI with a water view or even a garden view if I could get the room I had last year...had a great view of France and the quiet pool and the gardens.

I'll take a different view on the same basic answer. We stayed at Poly last year, and visited GF a couple of times, although we weren't staying there. GF didn't feel as "Disney." Instead, it had a clean, quality hotel feel (reminded me of the very exclusive Raffles Hotel in Singapore). Less Disney schmaltz and hype.

So, it kind of depends on what you want. If you want full-on Disney feel everywhere, this may not be the best place. If you want a hotel with a clean, quality feel, and Disney just outside, this will work.

Cheers.

We are at the Grand now for our first time after 3 Poly stays. It is lively and certainly much calmer than the Poly.

I don't think you will be disappointed as long as you know what to expect. It's more elegant and refined than the Poly.

We booked a gv but were upgraded to lagoon view and that's very nice though many gv rooms would be lovely as well.

It went to Looneyland, by way of Crazytown, with a detour through Wackoville, and a stop for snacks in Bonkerscity

We had a GV in Sago Cay and we thought it was lovely, we had a view of the lake and monorail.

You won't be disappointed with GF, the GF is amazing. It is Disney's best hotel no doubt, service and amenities are top notch and the grounds are beautiful. It feels very Disney to us, excellent theming and immersive.

Congrats!

My DW and I stayed at the GF on our wedding night (We got married at the Wedding Pavillion) and by the time the next morning came we were ready to abandon plans to stay at the Polynesian for our honeymoon and stay at the GF. In fact, the Bell Hop, Jerry, was going to see if he could help us do it but we decided to keep our reservations at the Poly.

Now we are glad we did b/c we LOVED the Poly and upon seeing us with our Wedding Ears on the CM upgraded us to MK view at the Poly, but we would have been just as happy at the GF and who knows you might get an upgrade. Good luck!

Haven't stayed at the Poly so I can't compare. The Poly looks way too busy for us. We like a more relaxed and spacious, light feeling and the GF fits that bill perfectly. Other than the annoying golf carts carring luggage EVERYWHERE! we loved the GF. We had a Garden view. We were given a room by the elevator but we went back and asked and they switched us to a lake/monorail view which was super great for our children. I don't see how you could be dissappointed.

That said, why did you choose GF over Poly or even the brand spanken new BLT. The reviews are amazing out of there so far. Of course I am an owner so I am a little biased. By the way it was because of the stay at GF that my DH finally saw all the fuss about staying close to the MK. It really is amazing and I am sure if they know you are there for your honeymoon they will probably upgrade you! Enjoy your wonderful trip. We went for our honeymoon a long time ago and all we could afford was Dixie Landings (currently Port Orleans Riverside). So know you are blessed to have such a lovely place to stay for a such a special time!
