Are you buying more of your kids back to school clothes at thrift shops?
Just curious if everyones back to school shopping for clothes have shifted from big box stores to thrift stores?
My dd and I went Goodwilling (as we call it at my house) yesterday and found quit a few things. The best deal was the Rainbow flip flops that looked as though they had been worn 1 time for $2. They were my size, my teenage dd was having a fit that they were to small for her. We went to a local thirft shop today and got 25 items including 1 pair of new nike tennis shoes and 1 pair of dress shoes for dd for $20. Also a pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans. I thing dd will not need anymore clothes for a while. She is starting nursing school the end of Aug. and she has to wear scrubs for most of school. |

No, but I don't buy back to school clothing until at least October, when everything is really marked down. They will wear shorts for at least a month!

I try. I did manage to find a couple of nice shirts that DD9 likes but no bottoms at all and nothing at all for DS13.
I don't know if they were picked over the last few weeks or if they just got alot of stuff in with rips and stains. I'm sure not going to buy those. |

No. While I stop by thrift stores whenever I get a chance, unfortuately our area is not known for having clean stores. One used to be kept up very well, but the staff has changed and thus they are not as organized. It is sometimes hard to overlook the polyester padded pilled bras that are hanging on the end of each rack. However, I do shop the clearance racks at better dept stores. That is how I do my majority of shopping.....items marked 50-75% off with additional 50% off..... nice Polo Raph Lauren shorts for $4.99! Shirts and leggings for the girls anywhere from 99cents to $3.99. Plus having 5 kids we usually get a few years worth of wear handing down to younger siblings.

The majority of my kids clothes do not come from there, but I do find lots of good stuff at them.
I'm very picky. Just found a sparkly pink vinyl vest that my daughter had to have. Another zip up animal print vest with a hood. I don't think either had been worn.$1.50 per piece is great. Have come across a lot of barely worn Gymboree stuff, too. |

I just got a Gymboree outfit (skort and shirt) for my DD for $3. It is so cute! I also picked up a $2.50 Heartstrings vest for her and a $4 Talbots sweater for me. But you have to be patient at Goodwill and look through everything.
I saw a Gymboree skirt and an American Girl sweater that I passed up on b/c they were WAY too big. |

I've been buying the majority of my son's clothing from a thrift store in my area since he was in kindergarten. He started 10TH grade this year.
The greatest compliment of my life? TODAY, the man in charge of security called my son over. He told him he LIKES the way he dresses. He said he dresses like a leader! It PAYS to buy Izod and Ralph Lauren for $3.00 a pop!!!

No. I don't manage to find much at thrift shops, but I do buy at end-of-season closeout sales. I then stash it all in storage buckets in the basement.
Other than new backpacks, sneakers, and a couple pairs of jeans, my kids are set.

I find some good play clothes at thrift shops, but get a lot of the nicer stuff at consignment sales. I'm a consignment junkie
.We have a big consignment sale here twice a year..fall for fall/winter clothes, and spring for spring/summer. I do the majority of shopping for DS2 there. Unfortunately, I usually have to buy new for DS8 b/c he is so big. But I shop clearance whenever possible.

My kids are really skinny. I have to buy them slim jeans and then take them in. It's hard enough to find them in regular stores--I don't have time to scour thrift stores for them.
I shop end of season clearance sales. |

Penney's carries slim jeans. Some even without the adjustable waists, which is a big complaint with kids (strip of elastic and buttons uncomfortable)

No, my ds11 just this summer decided his clothes from Target are not fashionable enough --so we'll head to Macy's and Aeropostale for jeans and a few shirts. He wears uniforms to school, so I already save a bundle. I don't mind getting him a few other items that will be worn. I do want to wait to make sure we get whatever the other kids are wearing.
