Pool Hopping-not at a resort

Anyone have this happen to them? Last Tuesday at 10:30 I was laying in bed so my 4 yo could fall asleep.I hear kids yelling outside and go look out the window. I saw a bunch of kids in the street and saw a girl running from my gate. At first I thought she was throwing something in our trash cans but then the pool came into my head.I ran to turn the backyard lights on.The kids left but my pool water was sloshing and there were wet footprints in the front of the house. I was really shocked. We have a 6ft fence but never lock it. I started locking it now.

The next night at 10:30 I was watching TV when I hear and see kids in bathing suits marching up to my house. The gate was locked and the lights came on so they left. DH is out of town so he sent his friend over but the kids were gone. 2 nights ago at midnight I hear kids again. The floodlights came on and the locked gate sent them away. Dh called our priecent and they told him to have me call 911 if they come back. I just hope the lights and locked gate keep them away. Who needs that kind of liability.

Post a sign: no pool hopping without a valid KTTW card.

What an amazing story! By kids do you mean teenagers? Probably best not to confront them yourself. Wow.

I would call the police everytime you hear them out there.
I lock my gate and my pool ladder is locked. But last summer my nieigbors went in my pool while I was a way for the weekend. The jumped my 6ft fence and used chairs to climb into the pool . Can't prove it was them. But when I pulled into my driveway on that Sunday I saw my neighbors in my driveway they said they were looking for there dog.But now I have a deer camera(it takes pictures as soon as he sees movement) and I told their landlord this and that I would press charges if they werein my yard again. Haven't had anybody in my yard this year.

It hasn't happened to us yet, but if we don't find a house to buy & move soon it will probably happen. We rent from my inlaws, and my husband's cousin is supposed to be moving in to his mother's rent house next door to us. This guy is like 30 years old, has never had a job to my knowledge (except possibly distributing illegal substances) and thinks that everybody just loves him. Of course, he's got lots of buddies that hang around him to sponge off his mom like he does, so I could totally see him thinking it's okay for him and his pals to take a dip in our pool. If that happens, there's going to be a huge family blow up because my MIL for some unknown reason thinks he's just grand. Hopefully we'll be moved before he moves in so we won't have to deal with any of it.

In your case, I would definitely call the police if I saw them coming around again. That's ridiculous!

What I want to know is - are they bringing their refillable mugs from 1996???

Seriously - I'd be calling the cops in a hot minute!

Are your lights on a motion sensor? if not I'd put them on one - ASAP.

Besides the fact that trespassing is illegal, like you said, HUGE liability issue should someone get hurt or worse.

Kids are still doing this, huh? Growing up, we had a pool, as did lots of our neighbors, and kids did this all of the time. I think I only did it once - heck, I had my own pool!

My DM has said that if she finds out that anyone has jumped her 6 foot fence then she's putting razor wire on the top of it.

Call the cops OP. The fact that they keep coming back almost makes me believe they've been doing this for awhile without your knowledge. The liability issue would have me quaking in fear.

I'm not sure who the "priecent" is, but I think this is bad advice. Certainly call the police, but this is hardly an emergency situation warranting calling 911. Something like this could cost lives in real emergencies.

Cheers.

Oh yea, this has happened to us this summer. We have an inground pool and hot tub and our bedroom window looks out directly over it. One night, at about 1:00am, I heard water splashing and looked out. There were 4 teen boys playing around in there. I woke up DH and he ran out and scared them off. 2 nights later they came back. Once again DH scared them away. That night he also called the police and told them about it. About a week later they came back and DH called the police right away. They were there within 5 mins and charged the kids with trespassing.

Fast forward to about 3 weeks later, July 4th weekend. We went away and came back on Sunday evening. Went to check on the pool pressure and found a load of human crap in our hot tub...yes, human crap. We called the police and they said it was probably the boys that they charged earlier.

Two days later DH's friend installed razor wire the whole way around the fence. I am hoping now that those boys try to break in again.

My husband and I have friends who were in Hawaii on vacation, some kids jumped their 6 ft fence (gate was locked) to swim in their pool. One of the kids drowned.

Very creepy. That never happened in our pool but the neighbors come over sometimes and swim. They have our permission to use the pool.

Is everything that is super obnoxious a L.I. thing? (because I'm guilty of doing this all the time as a teenager as well!)

I'm sure she meant to type "precinct" as in local police precinct. And if the police told her to call 911, why are you advising otherwise?

Precinct makes sense. Since I didn't know what it meant when I read it, I wouldn't have known she meant that the local police suggested that

Honestly- if the cops suggested I do that for something like this, I'd question them as well. Doesn't seem an appropriate use of an emergency number to me. If they suggested that to me, I'd probably still call the local precinct.

I'm not advising- just giving an opinion.

Cheers.
