"Don't Touch My Kids"? Well, Don't Touch Me!

DH and I were walking down a narrow path through a ride exit, and there were two kids were running around and shoving each other like maniacs a short distance ahead. All of a sudden they headed full tilt at DH, one running backwards and the other trying to shove him. They had narrowly missed other guests and DH could see he was going to get smacked into hard, so he put out his hand and said, "You need to stop RIGHT NOW!" Kid smacked into his hand and bounced off without even an "I'm sorry." Idiot Dad jumps up and yells, "How dare you touch my kid!" (Uh, the kid ran into DH's hand and would have body slammed him otherwise). I was already sharpening my razor tongue, but DH (who is normally mild mannered) snapped, "How dare you not control your kids?" Jerk Dad thought the better of saying more...what could he really say? "Don't you dare protect yourself while my brats knock you over?" I can see toddlers bumping into people, but these kids were like 11 or 12 and obviously liked sucking down their junk food.

WOW, is all I can say to the parent's comments to your husband. It's pretty crazy that some parents just can't control their kids or let them just to whatever they want. It's terrible, but it happens all the time. Nothing we can really do about it.

UGH! I would have had a hard time not going off on that guy! Some people should not be allowed to have kids and I seem to see them all when I'm at WDW.

We had a similar situation once. This woman and her two kids were behind us walking through Frontierland and her (maybe 8) year old kid was pushing the stroller, not her. Well he wasn't being careful and run it up the back of my mom's heels. We turned around. They both looked right at us and said nothing. No sorry or anything. So I said to the kid "Watch what you're doing!" Oh gee, the mom had something to say then! "Don't talk to my kid like that!" So I said "Then learn how to parent your kid!" Simply amazing!

When I read stories like this one, they make me so grateful that my son is such a good kid. Sometimes I go in out of the blue and give him a hug and he thinks I am really weird!
It is very uncomfortable to be run into by a strange kid. It is even more uncomfortable to try not to reprimand the parents! These kids sound like they were certainly old enough to know better!

And ironically, it seems like the parents with good kids are the ones who are polite and sometimes apologize even when they don't need to. The other day we were eating in a big booth at Sharks Grill at SeaWorld. There was a family with some young boys next to us...maybe they were bouncing around and being noisy, but I can't really say because I was more fascinated with watching the sharks. They couldn't have been too bad because I didn't even notice them. As they were leaving, the dad said, "I'm really sorry if we disturbed you at all with our noise." I said, "No problem, we honestly weren't disturbed at all." Very refreshing compared to the people who let the young uns run around like hellions and then get upset when others dare to complain.

The father is nutzzzzzz

Your husband is a very patient man, I would be much less polite LOL.
I understand when little kids run around and bump into people, but when older kids completely disregard people around, it is not acceptable in my book and parents should tell them to stop.
I also saw some too much polite people as well. I little girl(3 or 4 years old) bumped into my mother on a bus to the park, girl's mom bothered poor kid to appologise to us the whole ride, even so we said she did not really do anything, it was ok.
yep, such opposits.

Definately cannot stand the "it's not MY kids fault" mentality.

Or, as one of my friends' is guilty of, the "they're just having fun, and they're so cute!" way of thinking.

Drives me nuts.

I agree

I agree with Disnywd,

They just kids, or they just having fun, doesn't work when they old enough to understand manners, parents should teach their kids how to act in public, may turned to be a pretty useful in life.

I figure it means the brats were hyped up on junk food.

Try working in a family restaurant.... you have to deal with this ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite (and yes this happens a lot) is when parents leave their parents to eat at the restaurant while they go off and shop as if I am there to babysit.

Sounds like another example of I paid for this vacation my kids can do whatever they want.
People check their brains when they enter public sometimes, Disney
is no different.

Plenty of grownups are rude so why should their kids be any different. I think that people in general are getting worse and worse so kudos to those who try to be nice and also who do try to control their kids.

The children were being children. That's what they do and it is to be expected.
It was the fathers reaction that was way off base. He is the one with a problem. He should have told the kids to stop instead of yelling at your husband. He's a jerk.
