Has anyone every been to camelback in the pocono's?
I am looking at possibly going skiing there. Never been skiing but always wanted to try
Anyways, I know nothing about the resorts there. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I was looking at possibly going to chateau resort to stay. Also, if anyone knows...can you rent everything there for skiing? Considering I have never been I have absolutely nothing! Thanks! |

The chateau is nice. We usually get a loft suite. I don't know what kind of skiing you are used to. The Pocono slopes aren't huge, but in my opinion, Camelback is the best among them. The slopes do tend to get icy, though.

Thanks! I have never been skiing. Always wanted to try it...so I figure this would be a good place to try it out
I was reading reviews and the chateau had good and bad...so I just wanted advice from someone who had been there! |

No advice on places to stay as I live right there... but I learned to ski there!
You can rent everything you need there and they have tons of slopes so there's plenty of room (even when its crowded). Have fun!!!p.s.-- just checked out the chateau for my wedding and it seemed nice and clean!

Personally, I would do the Great Wolf Lodge. Get the best of both worlds/ski and then an indoor water park. Depending on when you go, they have some good rates.

We have a weekend home about 20 minutes from Camelback. Camelback is awesome for skiing. Personally, I would never stay at the Great Wolf Lodge that is in the Poconos. They have had many problems with bedbugs and at one point last year had an whole wing shut off for fumigation.

Camelback is where my kids learned to ski- It's small but fun. My problem is I am used to Vermont skiing - so to me PA is icy. - slippery skiing is no fun.
But if you get lucky and there is a boatload of REAL SNOW vs. Fake made stuff. Then it is great fun. Can't help with a place to stay as my dad had a house there when we lived in NY. And now we live close enough to day trip it. And UGH on the Great Wolf Lodge! Shoot we were going to stay there. Not anymore! |

and we have never had a problem. No matter where I stay, I always look under the sheet in the corner of the mattress. You can see the little buggers (saw them once in Newark airport, gross).

Thanks for the information! I was thinking about vermont, but considering I have never been skiing I thought I would just try camelback.
I looked into GWL but it is definately out of my price range. Does anyone know what it costs to rent everything to go skiing? I have absolutely nothing! I know you have to get ski lift tickets, ski rental, do you have to get ski clothes rented also? What do you wear skiing? lol. I am totally clueless

Lift tickets and equiptment rental can cost around $75-$100 less if you buy online ahead of time- or if you go during the week. Also you can equiptment from your Local Ski shop probably for less than you pay on the mountain- and you can rent for the entire season if you want. It's worth it if you are planning on learning how to ski(you are not going to learn in one day) Have fun. |

We are definately going to be going during the week. I did just email camelback to see what information they could provide to me. It looked like on their website that skiing doesn't really start until after christmas? I am thinking of going in february...although I would really like to go in december. Ski clothes are expensive! I couldn't believe the prices. Basically the pants and coat run like $400? We don't have anywhere near me that sells this kind of stuff. I am at a beach resort ![]() Thank you for all the information. If you have any other advice please do throw it my way |

For example if you are a medium http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...61217.970641#1 Columbia is a good jacket company for ski stuff. You can find them at discounter like TJmaxx too. Don't go crazy buying stuff because you may HATE it. And definately try to go earlier in the season vs. February- it's brutally cold then and the ice is an issue. |

Thanks! Don't know why I didn't think of them. I have their store about 40 minutes from my house...so I could always go there. What time of the year do you recommend the skiing? |

Personally I like going early December (or late November if we get lucky with snow) it's not as cold and it's not as crowded.
And don't get crazy with ski jackets - You want to be able to move in it.- and be warm. Think Layers though. I find that the thermals below make me too hot- I'll use fleece over layers then put on my jacket-If I get hot it's easier to take off one of those layers. Really though ski stuff is a good thing to buy used because a lot of people have high hopes then decide they hate it so the used stuff is used like one time! |
