You have to do what makes sense to you but you cut it close. RAC has to complete the luggage check in, not start the process 3 hours before your flight.
http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 first post My understanding is policy is enforced by the computer. That means the check in process must be completed by 7:45 for a 10:45 flight. Bell Services got to your room at 7:30. That gave you 15 minutes to get from your room to the RAC desk, wait in line and complete checking in. You would have been stuck taking your luggage under the bus not the end of the world if the bellhop had been a few minutes late or if a couple of other guests were in line in front of you. I would have checked my luggage at 7a and spent the remaining hour or so having breakfast in my resort. Alternately have one person check the luggage while your other family members shower. Quote:

But DME users - especially new ones - and potential users (i.e. readers of this thread) should note that the Disney Bell Services/Luggage Assistance CMs have had over four years' experience with Magical Express and its timing, and so their recommendations are invaluable. And the OP is correct - he absolutely DID luck out. Being at the end of that line of five parties with fifteen minutes to get to the front of the line, checked in, and to the pickup spot gives nobody any right or authority to jump the line.
Yes, I know the OP did not do that, and would not have done it. It's an observation based on years of general observation

You'd be surprised. The queue was completely full (and then some) when I was there last March. I still waited less than 10 minutes.

Agreed - I have been there on a Sunday morning, and the queing line was completely full and we only waited about 10 - 15 minutes too.........so don't expect just because the line is long; it will be a wait....
It is definately a great service.

Thanks for the report...glad DME worked out fine for your family. I have used just about all the available means of transport from MCO to WDW....not taxi cabs, but everything else-Mears shuttle, both the old and the new one, DME, various towncar services and family car. They each had something going for them.
I know that when I used a towncar service, it saved me about 20 mins total...had to wait for my bags which took about 15 or 20 mins, then had to go down to the exact same level as DME is on....DME is about a 2 min walk past the car area. For me, the money I save by using DME vs a car service is well worth it. But, many love the towncar service...it truly is a nice way to come and go at WDW!!! Just a point of information.....when DME is expecting more guests to arrive, they put on more CMs at the checkin area. The only time it has taken me more than 10 mins in that line was last Dec....and the Pop Warner families were arriving at the same time.... . The DME checkin line was back to the car rental counters!! It was scary. But even then, it only took 20 mins to get through the line. The bus line wait was quick though.Just didn't want anyone to be concerned about times in line to checkin. |

"Quite a distance" is relative - especially in relation to a Disney vacation where the walk from the escalators in the center of the terminal are likely closer to the DME Welcome Center than any other walk one will take on the entire trip. That walk's a lot easier when ya leave most of your belongings home and only pack what you'll need

kaytieeldr--There is a long walk from SW baggage claim to the DME area. Back up to level 3, go to the opposite corner of MCO then down to level one. Only an issue for guests arriving after 10p. It might make sense for late arriving guests to book a car service.
