Unhappy Not a good photography week - long and pathetic, LOL

First, I was at work Monday night when my son hit a walkoff game-winning home run in the playoffs. I've taken pictures of all his baseball games all year, but I missed this moment and nobody else took pictures.

Next, my camera bag was left on the kitchen counter in the chaos of getting out of the house Wednesday night on the way to his World Series game, which was an hour away from our house. I nearly died when I got to the game and saw it wasn't in the car.

Alas, I had my trusty old Canon S3 in my purse. Even though it's sometimes only taking pictures in B&W it's better than the alternative, so I was sure glad I had it. Turn it on, batteries are dead. DH goes to a nearby gas station and buys new batteries, so I'm pretty good.

Enjoy taking some pictures during the game, and great, they win the World Series! Teams are lined up, each player getting his trophy. I'm lined up to get some shots. A little sad I'm missing my dSLR when lots of other people around me have theirs, but it's ok, I'm still good. My son is three players away from getting his. I aim my camera to get ready for the shot and what do I see? "Batteries Depleted."

I had to actually (somewhat desperately) ask the stranger next to me to get a shot of my son getting his trophy.

It was then that I felt a big lump well up in my throat, and yes, I began to cry. Just a little. (Well, ok, maybe more than just a little.) I was just so - this of all nights!

I did manage to get a few more shots after the battery indicator came on, but boy, it was close. (We think the gas station batteries were old because normally we get great battery life w/ the S3.)

If you're still with me, can you stand one more?

Last night I went to see Paul McCartney at Fenway Park. I deliberately didn't take my dSLR after the Aerosmith experience in June (though someone actually grabbed it and put it in the car this time when I wasn't even planning to bring it; gotta love my family who felt badly I was so upset at the WS). I didn't think I'd be allowed to use it and we were sitting in a section w/ a lot of security personnel around.

Sure enough, I get in there and everyone's walking around with their dSLRs openly taking pictures of anything and everything. It wasn't an issue at all, apparently it didn't even say no pictures on the tickets! Fortunately I'd stocked up on plenty of new batteries for the S3 (which it turned out I didn't even need despite a couple of hundred pictures and video), and hopefully managed to get some good shots with it during the concert. One thing I was glad of was that I was able to shoot some video, and oh yes, that zoom is great to have, too.

Thanks for listening. I know if anyone can understand, you guys can.

I feel for you on the camera problems- but winning the world series and seeing Paul McCartney all in the same week sounds like a pretty good week to me. Tell your son congratulations- hopefully the guy next to you got the shot.

Camera sympathies! Isn't it amazing how dependent our world events become upon our capturing them ourselves!

Last March I was so good and followed ticket instructions for our Fleetwood Mac concert and didn't take any camera with me. Well, guess what! Everybody else, EVERYONE took pictures with their zonkin' big zoom lenses and I had nothing with me. That's the last time I go with no camera to a concert!

Pea-n-me! I hope you get that picture of your son! And congrats!

Aw, big HUGS! I would have cried too. Congrats to your son though! And Paul McCartney, lucky you. I've seen literally 100s of shows and I have to say his is one of the very best I've ever seen.

Thanks, guys. You gave me a few chuckles.

Joe, don't I know it!

My S3 seems to be having more problems than just the B&W issue. Apparently some of the video and pictures came out upside down (I have no idea what that means. Maybe carrying it around in my pocketbook all these years has finally taken its toll.)

Just finished up some long shifts and getting ready to look at my pictures from the week. Wish me luck!

I agree, he was incredible. I've seen him before, but this show, for some reason, was better. As a matter of fact, I'd venture to say it was probably the best concert I've ever seen (and I've seen tons too)! I'd love to sit through it all over again! If anyone is a fan and has a chance to get tix for this tour, I'd highly recommend going.
