I can not wait until school starts!!

My DS's are driving me crazy and I work full-time so we are only together 4 hours a day right now. They are constantly at each other's throats. We need a routine back in the house again.

Tonight's fiasco: DS10 just happened to be in DS8's room swinging a belt (you know where this is going). DS10 said that DS8 got in the way of the belt and that's how he got hit in the face with the buckle. DS10 said it's not his fault (his ongoing phrase). DS8 should have gotten out of the way. Please Lord give me strength.

Also, earlier tonight, I made DS8 write down 10 things that he liked about his brother because on the car ride home from summer care he stated that he wished DS10 wasn't his brother and that he didn't like him at all. Some of his top 10 were, "I like my brother because he is good at playing his DS." "I like my brother because he is good at playing the Wii." Boys are sooooooo deep.

Thank you for letting me have my mini rant.

You know, I never thought I would be one of "those" mothers, the kind that can't wait until school starts. And for a lot of years I didn't crave the start of school. I actually *enjoyed* having my kids home, doing crafts, taking little field trips, hanging out at the pool, making slushies.

Well, all that has changed. I'm 52 now and a bit less gung ho in my parenting role. My kids are teens and young adults and I'm just sick of dealing with them. And they're good kids! Mostly I'm sick of my 14yo. He's very mentally handicapped and requires a LOT of care & supervision. Remember when the kids were 1 year olds? Okay, now picture your 1 year old at 120-lbs, 5'6". Remember how you had to watch them constantly, feed, dress, and diaper him. Remember how you kept one ear cocked for his cries 24hrs a day. I am so sick of it. And i feel terribly guilty for even saying such terrible things!

I want school to start so I can get some relief.

Don't feel guilty. You are only human and surely deserving of a break. Doesn't your school district have an extended school year program students with disabilities? The ESY program here picks up the student at his/her home and brings them back afterward. It's only 3 hours per day, but helps the kids maintain their learned skills so there's less regression over the summer.

Christian doesn't qualify for ESY because he doesn't lose skills over the summer(because he doesn't have a lot of skills to start with.) As his teacher said,"You just do suuuuuuch a good job with him during the summer." Nice to get a compliment from the teacher but ARGH

My 6yo is mentally handicapped. I was telling my sister a few days ago that I'm ready to put him in daycare a few days a week just to get a break! Thankfully I have some help at home with my teens and can get a break every once & awhile. Do you have any help, friends or family nearby?

My kids don't go back until September. Some days I'm ready for them to go back, others I don't want the lazy summer days to end. I love hanging out at the pool or watching the kids play at the park. (and not having to stress over homework every night!) Then there are the days where I'm ready to sign them all up for boarding school!!!

lol, OP, about the "good at video games". At least it's a compliment

Our older kids help, but we have as a family been at it alone for the past 14 years. Just in the last 2 weeks we have been approved by the state to receive some in-home assistance with personal care. A nurse assistant comes in for 3 hours in the evening Fri-Sat-Sun. She feeds him and helps him walk around and play in the yard. She keeps him safe. After awhile she scrubs him down and puts him in pajamas and diaper. God bless Nancy for her devotion! Three hours isn't a lot of time, but it means we can go get some dinner with our big kids or buy groceries without taking him along. I'm not complaining.

Hogwash! You need to fight for those services next summer.

I also love summer with my kids. We go to the pool everyday when I'm not working and its nice.

Yesterday we went to the local park looking for crawfish with a neighbor.

I am so sad to see the kids go back to school.

I'm glad, too. Monday is FINALLY coming and I cannot wait.

I usually hate it when summer is over but this year we moved and my son has no people in the neighborhood his age. Nothing is like a bored 16yo...

He took an online course and he started a health program and lost 30 pounds, which I am so proud of, but he's STILL bored.

Yesterday was open house and it was so good to see him in his element. And the reaction to his weight loss was the cherry on the sundae!! Cannot WAIT for Monday!!

Same thing with us. DS is speech delayed & has a slight developmental delay. We pulled him from public school at the advice of his therapists b/c he wasn't progressing fast enough. He did qualify for extended summer & there were so many kids with more serious issues he actually regressed & picked up negative behaviors. The public school the following year said don't put him. I was getting so many mixed signals from the public school & the private therapists. Also our public school system is not the best. I signed him up for FL McKay scholarship & he is doing wonderful in a Christian private school. He is totally caught up & is only pulled by an ESE teacher 1x a day & is mainstreamed. Never thought that possible at his last school.

Here's the kicker I have almost $2K left from the scholarship after the tuition, registration, fees & books for the school year. I could sure use it for the school's summer program, which is fantastic but there are so many requirements that the school won't qualify for the rest of the scholarship $ for Summer.

So we put DS in swimming, I got him the Hooked on Phonics for 1rst grade & he stays home with dad who is working from home this summer & they are driving each other & me NUTS ! School starts 8/24 ! Can't wait.....

I guess that I am lucky. Both of my boys are healthy, and I travel so much that we never get tired of one another. I cherish every minute with them. I went for a 2 hour walk with my 12 year old last night. We just walked and talked.

Soon, he will move on to other things and I will be just another person in his life. For now, I feel his love. I want every day to last forever...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love my kids A WHOLE BUNCH. I definitely love them even more when they are not together. When they are seperate, they are totally different beings. Put them together though and it's like there is a contest to see how fast they can antagonize each other.
