NE1 else have cereal or sandwich dinner nights?

Okay so we all do it once in a while, right. What about 5 nights? An unexpected car repair bill has left us a little tight until Friday. I refuse to use the cc for the car bill, so most of my grocery money went to the car. I used the last pack of meat in the freeze last night (beef roast). We had a very nice supper. I could only afford $50 this week for groceries so I bought a couple boxes of cereal, sandwich stuff, fresh fruit and veggies, bread, milk, cheese, yogurt, and eggs. I bought a pack of hot dogs to mix it up and a lb of bacon for BLTs. DH is cool with it. he would live on sandwiches if I let him. The kids love cereal. I just feel guilty. At least we won't be hungry. I'm just used to making big dinners.

We fall back on the Bacon pasta dinner

It's easy peasy-start with some Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 5 srips of bacon sauted = add either can of chopped tomatoes- or chop up 2/3 tomatoes and add to the skillet. Sprinkle in some Cayenne pepper!
Serve over pasta.

I have been doing grocery shopping for our family of 6 for about $100 a week lately. We have meatless a couple times a week. - and it's actually yummy.

I have not done sandwiches yet- although I have done Grilled cheese with tomato soup.(can you tell I have a boatload of tomatoes.)

I think it's a great idea. Breakfast for dinner is good and cheap. Here's a list of low cost meals that I compiled. These are the meals that I pull from when I need to keep it cheap.

Pancakes for dinner is just fun at our house - also pretty budget friendly!

We do sandwiches about once a week just b/c we like sandwiches. If the are fixed with lettuce and tomato you are getting all the food groups. In the winter i do tomato soup with them.

When dh was out of town for a week the kids and I basically did this. There was no need in me fixing a big dinner because they wouldn't eat half of it.

I see nothing wrong with it

Oh gosh, no need to feel guilty about it. My picky granddaughters beg for breakfast for dinner! They think it's the biggest treat ever. Pancakes/french toast is a favorite. Also corn flakes sliced banana, milk, and toast. Somestimes I make Cream of Wheat or oatmeal-we like that too. Good stuff.

We do a pancake or waffle dinner about once a week. You can buy a box of pancake mix that you make with only adding water for pretty cheap. If they have sausage links on sale I will buy and stock up.

You can also put fruit toppings on the pancakes or waffles for a little more nutrition.

Nothing wrong with sandwiches and cereals for dinner. You gotta do what you gotta do. And everyone is getting fed.

Please tell me your secrets. We spend way to much money on food and we rarely go out to dinner.
DS2, DH, and myself would eat cereal every night but my DD5 wants a 4 course meal most nights.

we have done breakfast for dinner on nites we are running late and I did not feel like pulling any frozen meat out. Better than buying fast food! Cereal, pankcakes, quick scrambled eggs with spinach thrown into in and cheese on top, white rice on the side(we buy the big bag and have a rice maker) with toast!

Love meatless meals too!! I love Aldis a few cans of black beans or kidney beans with some diced tomatoes and a pack of taco seasoning, throw in a can of corn serve with white rice .

I just grocery shopped with $60 for a little over a week worth of meals I have a family of 6

We used to do this all of the time growing up! Believe it or not, the kids will ask when you can do it again. Tight times can make for fun memories.
