What a fun tradition. If ours wasn't an hour away, I might convince Kenny to start that one. Instead, I made the mistake of doing the overnight french toast (blueberry, his favorite) and that has become the tradition instead. I wish I had thought ahead on our first Christmas morning together. My grandmother always said that you should begin as you mean to go on. If I had applied that to Christmas breakfast, I wouldn't be spending Christmas morning every year stirring blueberries until they burst for syrup.

That child is wise beyond his years. Glad you and Caili had a good time at the beach.

When you finish yours do you want to come help with mine?!? My kitchen floor is STILL not finished. Our floor guy has been MIA because he said his wife left him - and all four of their children ages 13 - 6. I'm trying to cut him some slack at least for a little while, but my patience is running thin.

...Have you given your big boy cereal? If so when?? Have fun at David Cook!

Ellen, sorry you had a trying day.

Janice, happy renovating. We need to get going on painting our empty room for Luke.

Tigger, welcome ...glad to have you join in!

---------------

DH brought me home a Sour Cream Coffee Cake recipe from a woman at work. Everyone including DH raved about it. Seems nice and simple I am going to try to make it next week. Here is the recipe.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake
1 Package of Duncan Hines Yellow Cake Mix
1 Package of Vanilla Instant Pudding (sm box)
8 oz. Sour Cream
1/2 cup Oil
4 Eggs
1 Tpsp Vanilla Extract

Hand mix until there are no more lumps.

Filling
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Chopped Walnuts
2 Tsp. Cinnamon

Mix Together.

Spread 1/2 to 2/3 of mixture in Bundt Pan. Then spoon in 3/4 of fillin gmixture. Add rest of the cake mixture and then top with remaining filling. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

(***** I made this recipe since posting it took about 50-55 minutes in bundt pan to cook. Also, I did not love the white sugar in the filling. I think next time I make it I will try to substitute brown sugar)

You must be so aggravated! I know there are extenuating circumstances, but there is only so long you can deal with the house in renovation stage...especially the kitchen!

Well, if you ever do visit the Rugged Bear Outlet, we aren't that much further. You are welcome to join us! There's a carousel, the kids can have ice cream and we can have fried clams from my favorite fish market. The coffee cake sounds great!

Janice -- I'm glad you found the flooring you wanted and are way more motivated at home renovation than I am. I like doing improvements around the house...they just happen very slowly.

Hey all! Just wanted to pop in quick and let ya'll know that we made it back safe and sound last night. Not w/o some travel drama--but we all made it home in one piece. We went cherry picking one morning, so I've got a cherry pie in the oven right now. We had a lot of good Wisconsin cheese, sausage and beer. Time for me to get back in the gym. I have some great pics of our trip--but have to recharge the camera battery before I can post them. Okay, need to go back to finishing up clearing out my inbox and check on my pie. Will be back later!

We actually only started the IHOP tradition a few years ago. We used to spend every Christmas with my parents, but it got to be too hard to travel that long, and transport all the gifts, etc. So, we decided to stay home for Christmas. Alan likes a big meal on Christmas Eve, and a full Christmas dinner as well. I have always made a big breakfast for Christmas day, so I decided that if I was going to be doing all that cooking on the holiday (not to mention the cleanup), he could dang well take me out for brunch on Christmas Eve morning! So far, it's worked out really well. I've even managed to cut back on the Christmas Eve meal. Instead of tons of food, we now do appetizers and soup and that's it. So, I'm getting my pancake and eating it, too!

Let me get preachy... don't discount disappointments and hardships in your life due to others having it "worse off." There will always be someone worse off than all of us, but that doesn't make our pain any less painful or our struggles any less difficult.

Aimee I glad you were able to eat & I hope you feel well tonight!

We've stayed at the Dolphin, but it's been about 6 yrs. They didn't have all of the dining options they have now. The rooms were very nice.

Stephanie, (my multi-quote missed your post) Welcome home!! Sounds like a great fattening trip! Sorry you had a little road drama. Mmmm home made cherry pie! I'll be right over.

Welcome Home! Care to share your travel drama with us?

My DDIL went to WI for a business trip. She was on WW, traveling while on any meal plan like WW is hard. Well, Erica loves cheese. Any kind of cheese. But good cheese is almost like crack for her. He colleagues in WI wanted to show her a good time while she visited their site and of course food was involved in each treat. She got offered cheese as an incentive for everything. Poor girl was between a rock and a cheese wheel, gave up and enjoyed each different cheese in every place she went

I think this is a wonderful tradition. If Buddy had his way we would have every Holiday home, but I put my foot down years ago. I could not keep it all up. If he offered Christmas Eve morning at IHOP I would be !

Today is Steak and salad. I have broccoli and green beans so I'll be cooking one of those.

Ladies, my wine looks so pretty! We have three different kinds going right now. I have a Pinot Grigio that is all degasses and will be ready to bottle at the end of September. It is clearing nicely. I also have a Pinot Grigio Rosato that is working. We racked it yesterday, stirred the dickens out of it adn wil be doing this for three more days. It is a ways from being ready to bottle. Welby racked her Pinot Noir and it is on the way too. I think I am going to get a Chardonnay going next week. I want to have them bottled for christmas but most should rest in the bottles for some time after that. Welby is going to start another Merlot next.

Now our next project is bottles. We need to buy what we do not have so I am doing my part to make sure that if I buy a bottle it starts with wine already It is a rough job, drinking all that wine but I am willing to take one for the team!

Have a great day All!

Nancy I am glad you are such a team player Too bad we are all so far away. You would have a surplus. Alex loves IHOP me not so much. The one IHOP we used to go to years ago was so dirty I couldn't eat. I should give it another shot.

I got part of the carpet up. Surprise the carpet padding is foam. This builder did everything on the cheap. I am all for a bargain but foam. Thank god we never had a fire I hope to have to rest of the carpet up tonight but I am not going to overdo it. I have to go to work this week. Where did I get such heavy furniture?

Dinner is undecided today might be stormy. I would like to grill.

Janice- I have had to tear carpeting up several times and i have never liked what was underneath unless I had it installed myself. In my first house the kitchen was carpeted in a black rubber backed rug that had gotten "glued" onto the floor beneath I saved a lot of money removing it myself but thankfully the floor guy took pity on me an helped me get the rest off the floor. It was the only time I regretted having a large eat in kitchen
