After listening to the "facebook to facebook" email show and reading a previous post about "kevin's book club"

, I thought it might be fun to start a thread where people could post what books they have read or are currently reading. I have already added some titles to my reading list after reading some of the suggestions given on this board, so let's get started!

The last two books I read were written by Chef Anthony Bourdain. Some of you may know him from his Travel Channel show "No Reservations". Many of you, however, may not know that the reason he is on television today is because of the sucess of his first New York Time's Bestseller Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Cullinary Underbelly. In this book Bourdain shares his experiences in the restaurant industry in a rather unbaised way (think the dis unplugged but with food). His second book, A Cook's Tour, is equally as entertaining; however, it focuses on his travels around the world in search of the "perfect meal". I would suggest these titles to anyone that has a true apreciation for food, whether it be at some swanky four star joint in New York, or your local deli.

I am currently reading Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbooks Got Wrong by James W. Loewen. I started reading this a few hours ago and cannot put it down. The book evaluates twelve of the leading American history textbooks used in the country and shows that many of the things they teach are factually incorrect. This book is very well researched (the notes pages are almost as long as long as the book itself), and I would reccomend it to all you history buffs out there!

I'm currently working my way through some fluff chick lit stuff (Jen Lancaster books actually). Not anything with much 'meat' to it - but it helps me turn my brain off - which is a good thing!

I'm currently reading The List by J.A Konrath.

Unfortunately, this is currently only available to folks with a Kindle. It's a self-published book and the author is hoping that good "word of mouth" will help it find an audience.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson - This is a world wide phenomenon. Best seller almost everywhere.

Let the Great World Spin by Colum Mccann - About NYC in the 70's

The Doomsday Key by James Rollins

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. This one comes HIGHLY recommended.

Currently I am rereading the last Harry Potter book and I'm reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Zombies really make the book more entertaining.

A good one for the comic book geeks out there is, Soon I Will Be Invinsible. Very amusing tale from the view point of a super villian.

My non fiction suggestion is, Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts. I couldn't put it down and learned a lot.

I am currently reading fluff kind of stuff...

I recently finished Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisburger. She also wrote The Devil Wears Prada. Chasing Harry Winston was alright...it was just hard for me to get into for some reason.

I am currently reading Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner. This book is a sequel to another of her books called Good in bed. I didn't realize that she had written another book with the same characters! Those are my favorite kinds of books. When I find a good book that features stories and characters that I like, it makes me sad to see the story end. I want to know what happens next...so I find that I am drawn to books that are part of a series.

Some of my past favorites are the entire Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, and of course, the Twilight series and Harry Potter.

Next on my list are the Sookie Stackhouse books...

I just finished Hold Tight by Harlan Coben (mystery) it was good, but not as good as some of his others.

I'm currently slowly reading Disney's Nine Old Men by John Canemaker. Unfortunately, it's a big heavy book and not condusive to comfortable reading, so it's probably going to take me awhile.

I'm also reading Anastasia: The Riddle of Anna Anderson. It's about Czar Nicholas, the murder of his family and whether or not this woman, Anna Anderson is the Czar's daughter Anastasia who possibly escaped. It's a true story and even though it has already been determined through DNA that Anna Anderson was not Anastasia, the book is still absolutely fascinating so far.

I just finish reading max witch is the 5th book in the maxium ride series by james patterson

and i also just finished reading uglies but scot westerfeld

I usually have a few books going at a time mostly slanted to history or biographies. The one and only book on my Kindle (a gift) is Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. I like a lot of her work. Then there is Renegade by Richard Wolffe about the Obama campaign. My guilty pleasure reading is W.E.B. Griffin’s The Hunters. Total fluff but a fun read. I also just finished Walt Disney by Neal Gabler. A really comprehensive book on Uncle Walt.

DD is reading 1984 for school and she is not having fun. I think it has less to do with the book but the fact that she has to read and write a report on it.

I have just finished reading Lamb by Christopher Moore. It is now one of my favorite books ever. Absolutely hilarious, in my opinion anyhow. I am just starting 1776 by David McCullough. Seems interesting so far but I am not far into it yet.

I have not been able to read anything this summer, but I would love to read those Anthony Bourdain books that were mentioned. I love anything Anthony Bourdain.

Books I loved were Memoirs of a Geisha, Poisonwood Bible, Pride & Prejudice (sans Zombies), Kite Runner, and Secret Life of Bees. I wish I had more time to read. I guess you really have to make time. I will try! This thread has definitely inspired me to go to Borders.

I am reading The Help which as been on the best seller list. It is very good and very eye opening. And yes Keven Water for Elephants is a very good book.

I'm reading Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist by Michael J. Fox. I have really enjoyed reading him, even if I'm not sure I agree with everything. I've also read Don't Take My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark this summer (I think I've read all of her books but one) and Cursed by Carol Higgins Clark (not as good as her mom, but entertaining characters). I think that's about it this summer. I usually read a ton while school is out, but I had grad classes to take this year....

I missed it! I'd like to read the Pillars of Earth books by Ken Follet that Kevin suggested, though I've never tried Follet before. Maybe over Christmas break...at least I won't have classes then!! I'll have to fire up my Kindle - yes, I have one, but it's been collecting dust (and completely loosing charge) for months now...the library is cheaper.

I recently read Peter and the Star Catchers by Ridley Pearson & Dave Barry.
I found it a thoroughly enjoyable, fun book!

Some old favorites of mine that haven't already been mentioned are:
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
City of Bones by Michael Connelly
Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (whoops- mentioned while I was typing- love it though)

I also loved The Pillars of the Earth and 1776- for those of you just getting into those!
