A little hanky panky is what I have heard too. My DD never dropped, so I couldn't be induced so I had to have a c-section. I was 8 days over my due date, she was my first and weighed in at 9lb 7oz.

The stretch and sweep (as the midwives call it) worked for my second.
As for my first I went early and was outside gardening all day. I think the squats up and down motion got the ball rolling. To think about it when i was in labor with my second they had me doing squats to help bring her down. Anyway congrats and good luck.

get a birthing ball and sit on that a lot. You need to bring the baby down at least before getting induced to at least help prevent a c/s.

also have your DH help you do some squats. If you get a contraction, squat down to help push the baby down against the cervix. At least then they are doing something.

Lots of labor vibes to you though and I hope that baby arrives very shortly!

1. Walk, walk. walk, walk, walk, walk... and walk
2. Get an exercise ball and just bounce while sitting on it. I did this for an hour a night for 2 nights before my water broke. My son was both at 40 weeks 1 day.
3. In preparation for the birth (not necessarily to induce labor itself) drink a ton of water. No caffeine as it will cause your cervix to remain tightened (as told to me by my midwife.) Stay hydrated and it will be easier for your cervix to loosen up.

Good luck!

My second daughter was the same way - I was on bedrest at 25 weeks, allowed up around the 36th week, and she came 3 days past her due date, the little bugger. It was the day after Thanksgiving (that was lovely to throw up) and I was scheduled to be induced that next Monday.

Did you have the steroid shots to promote the baby's lung development? I hated those, they made me hyper, and then I had to stay in bed!

I'm thinking the bedrest slows down the process - those weeks without gravity pushing the baby in the right direction, she doesn't know which way to go!

I've had 3 v births, and never went on my own. I even had a failed overnight induction with #1, at almost 42 weeks, and was sent home. I had even falled down a full flight of stairs. If it makes you feel better, with #2, I was induced at 41 weeks, 3 cm dilated, they broke my water, started the pit, and gave me an epidural right away. Never felt a single twinge of a contraction (which started right after the epi took effect), and I pushed ds out 4 hours later - it was a great day! As you can imagine, I have tried everything possible to go into labor (walking, scrubbing floors, sex, evening primrose oil, spicy food, even the old breast pump, castor oil), and nothing. Most people try these methods when they're close to their due date, and I think therefore those that go into labor would've gone anyway.

Hubby was a 44 week baby and their dates were rock solid (FIl was in Merchant Marines on leave). Hubby was under 9 pounds...can you imagine if they'd made him come out 4 weeks earlier? He was holding his head up from birth and was very physically advanced...

Unfortunately I didn't listen to my own advice and hired some really bad "helpers"...my son was forced out at 42 weeks 3 days, and he was under 8 lbs. Had some signs of prematurity, too! We too were rock solid on our dates (wedding night...by 2 days later I had already started to change and wasn't feeling very well, and there weren't really any other opportunites to have "started" a baby after that). If he'd been forced out at 40 weeks he wouldn't have been the same baby.

Remember, and remind your hired help, that 40 weeks is an AVERAGE. It's not "normal", it's the "norm", which means it's a numbers thing. For babies that arrive at 36 weeks, there has to be a baby at 44 weeks, to come up with that 40 weeks nonsense.

Schedule things to do every day, and do them until baby graces you with his/her presence. Plus, induction makes things dangerous for YOU, with far more complications than just letting baby's nature take its course. Just relax.
For me, I'm glad dd was induced 2 weeks early (since my other babies were induced late, OB agreed). She was almost 9 pounds! Most of it head - LOL!

I was at the beauty shop today and I overheard someone saying that they were going in for a pregnancy message where they rub you down and relax you. They say that after that you will go into labor. I had never heard of it before, but from what they said today, it works.

I was induced at 38 weeks 6 days due to high blood pressure (150/110) and I delivered the next day by c-section to failure to progress. I never went beyond 4cm, so honestly if you can avoid induction I would. I had planned on waiting to go on my own but I needed to delivery. Oh and my stubborn child had me on bedrest from 26 weeks to 37 weeks due to preterm labor and then she wouldn't even come out! Stinker!

With my twins, I ran up and down the big toy at the playground.. Im sure everyone was impressed to see a GIGANTIC pregnant lady running around on the thing. But I went from a 3 to a 4... and the babies came the next day. And I do mean gigantic..My twins were almost 7lbs each.
