very very picky eater and WDW dining!!
Ihave a 6yo who has severe food texture aversions. I was going to book in several character meals as we are on DDP and wanted to maximize it. But I'm worried there will be nothing he will eat!
Also, I'm thinking the "family style" meals are out for picky eaters? I was going to do lunch at Hollywood & Vine as ds's first choice is to see Leo and June Also thinking about the Crystal Palace. Looks like I should give Ohana a pass? I am so confused..Here is the extent of what he'll eat b'fast- cheerios, and/or vanilla yogurt lunch- battered chicken nuggest- not the crumb coating ones, onion rings, french fries, boiled or steamed hotdogs- cannot have any colour or "bumpy" surface, roast beef sandwich with plain mustard, cheese and crackers. supper- see lunch rinse and repeat. HEEEEEEEEEELLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!! are hotdogs boiled at wdw and nuggets fried? best choices fot TS meals? tia!! |

The good news is that Disney has standardized all of its fare- so if your son likes the chicken nuggets in one place, chances are it will be the same at other places. Plus, chicken nuggets are offered just about everywhere.
Will he eat pb&J Uncrustables? They have these too. Your best bet is to stick with buffets but as you are aware, there's no guarantee he'll eat what's there. Disney chefs are wonderful in accommodating special food allergies but I'm not sure your son's problem would qualify (although it might). You can contact each restaurant ahead of time, for example, and ask if they have Cheerios and vanilla yogurt available for breakfast. You may have to just bring your own. That way, at least, you could choose any TS restaurant and he'll still have something to eat. Garden Grocer can deliver if you don't have a car. I also recommend checking out the menus over at allears.net . That will tell you if the restaurant is going to work for you. There's also a section on special dietary needs that may be useful. Edited to add link to dining page on allears: http://allears.net/din/dining.htm Good luck and have fun! Last edited by MHSweb79; 07-28-2009 at 01:05 PM. |

I feel your pain! I have a 16 year old who only eats carbohydrates - pasta, bagels, cereal, etc. so we've been dealing with this at Disney for a long time.
We also get the DDP so here's what we do (you have to really like to eat!): We order a side dish for my son off the plan - usually a bowl of plain pasta and they usually charge $5-6. This becomes his real dinner. Then we order a regular meal for him on the Dining Plan that the rest of the group wants to try and we all share the food he doesn't eat. I've figured this out financially and it's still cheaper for us to use the DDP. So far we've done this for 3 trips and are planning the same strategy for August. Of course, we need to roll ourselves home after all this food, but we love to eat!

I know how you feel! My DS12 is also pretty picky. We also stuck to a lot of buffets. Most of the kids section have chicken nuggets so at least you know he'll have something to eat. Also a lot of the restaurants offer nuggets and hot dogs on the kids' menu so I would go look at the menus on allears.net. And I agree with the PP that the chefs' are very accomodating so I wouldn't stress too much about him not liking his food.
Best of luck! |

The hot dogs are boiled or steamed so you should be fine there but they do come on brown looking multigrain buns. We didn't see cheerios or plain vanilla yogurt at all. CHeerios are easy to bring in a suitcase though. There are 2 types of chicken nuggets at WDW. The ones on kids menus are round flat and crispy with minced up chicken and the ones for adults are peppery (according to my kids) and have a more battered appearance and the chicken appears more like breast meat. Fries are super easy to find. They are a medium thickness fry kind of like Wendy's. There are a number of places where you could get a roast beef sandwich but only from the adult menu except Sunshine Season's at Epcot has a kid's sub sandwich. Buffets seem like the best idea or places that have hot dogs on the kids menu might even be easier. Some buffets have nuggets but not all do a number have chicken legs instead. Many offer plain pasta, pizza, or mac and cheese but none of those were on his list. Casey's QS at MK has hot dogs and no kids menu so all get the same thing. It's nice and centrally located on Main St so it would be easy to pick him up a hot dog and let others get something else if hey wanted to.
