Just back from Kaanapali Beach Club

We just returned from a 10 night stay on Maui. The first 4 nights we spent on the slopes of Haleakulu in a 5 room inn called the Kula Lodge. Very quiet and wonderful views. We like to hike in the crater and go up for sunset so this is the best way for us to do it. Upcountry - as it is called - should not be missed.
We then went to Kaanapali Beach club for 6 nights. When we got there at 11:00 the room wasn't ready so we ate lunch and hung around the pool which was beautiful. The clerk told us that they would call us on our cell phone when the room was ready. We had not been called by 3:00 and DH was getting antsy so I suggested we just check with them and see what time they thought the room would be ready. As soon as we walked in we were informed that our room was ready. I don't know why they didn't call us but I was just glad it was ready.
The room was beautiful! The confirmation said that we would have limited kitchen facilities but the only thing missing was a stove and oven. We never cook anyway so it didn't matter to us! The view was called a scenic- which was a view of the West Maui Mountains. We saw many rainbows from our balcony.
We really felt that this resort was well worth the trade. If you have any questions I would be glad to answer them!

Can you post some pictures when you get a chance?? Did this unit sleep only 2 or could you have had 4 in it? We go to Hawaii every 5 years & I didn't think that RCI offered anyplace on Maui that we'd be interested in!! Pictures might help!!
Thanks!!!!

I'm sorry Anal Annie, I didn't answer your question. The unit that we stayed in was a 1 BDR that slept 4. 2 in the bedroom and 2 in the queen sofa bed in the living room.

Thanks for the pics! It's nice to hear how the new trades through RCI are going.

I agree, it's good to get updates on the RCI trades. Looks great! Any other photos to share of the island?

Thank you for posting the pics! Makes me anxious to go back. This month was 3 yrs. since we've gone... Maybe we WILL have to reconsider the idea of buying at Ko'Olina... Going every 3 yrs. sounds pretty good to me right now!

Thanks so much for the pics! Looks like you had a good experience

We have KBC booked for Dec. and would love to hear any tips you might have! How much was parking? Was the pool refurbished yet?

TIA!

Parking was $12 a day + tax. If you have to do laundry, do it first thing in the morning. Washers and dryers are located on the even numbered floors in the Aloha Tower. Washers are $1.50 and dryers $1.25. I really did miss having laundry facilities in the room. The other tip is when you get checked in, a Timeshare person will wisk you away and try to pin you down for a timeshare presentation. We very firmly but politely let them know that we were not interested. They did call and leave messages but we ignored them and went about our business.
The pool was finished and it was beautiful. I will post more pictures when I get a chance.

$12 per day is not too bad for Hawaii. We can deal with that.

And the timeshare pitch is to be expected as well...

Thanks again and looking forward to the pool pics!

some more pictures

I thought that I had more of the pool area, but I didn't. It was beautiful and we enjoyed our beach area as well.

What beautiful pictures. I've never traded out, how many points was it for that time frame? Thanks!

KBC is in both II and RCI. Overall I'd put in third on Maui behind the Westin and Marriott but first for RCI. The location is not as good as say the Whaler, Westin and Marriott but not bad and better than most. The units at KBC are a little quirky but the kitchen is very functional. I think the two units we had last time had a 2 burner top but no stove though I seem to recall a fair sized toaster oven. Also, the door to the BR was ventilated but I know they've had a refurbishment since then and that may have changed. Unless they've changed their philosophy, they tend to give exchangers the parking lot views and offer to upgrade you for like $70 a day. This also could have changed as I know they've gone through a change of management since we were there in 2002. Overall a very nice resort that's rated 8.33 on TUG which I think is a little low. I'd give it an 8.6-8.7 overall.

The unit will sleep 4 with a pullout but I don't think there was private bath access, you had to go through the BR to get there.

There was a door from the living area into the bathroom. The toilet was in its own room and there was a soaking tub, seperate shower, 2 sinks,(one with a full vanity). There were closet doors from both the bedroom and bathroom side. There were doors for the balcony in the living room and bedroom. There was no stove at all in our unit. Everything looked brand new and was very clean. We had a "scenic" view which was of the West Maui Mountains. We saw the sun rise over the mountains and many rainbows. We were very happy with this view and they did not charge us extra.

Thanks for the update. Either I'm recalling incorrectly or they made the changes with the refurbishment, given II has sit listed a a 4/2, the latter may be the case or some rooms may be different than others. Did they still have the ventilated doors between the BR and LR? So you got to look at the parking lot and Star Market, same for us.
